The other side of #NIWatergate - if this gate was open, people would be able to safely access the road from the beach. But it's not, so they can't.

@rodneymccune This isn't a solution either... [these issues are all of a piece - we MUST enhance walking, cycling, access to the countryside, establishment and protection of rights of way, get public utilities to play their part, to plan for a cleaner, greener, healthier future]

Anyway, hoping that @KGodfreyDfI and @NicholaMallon at @deptinfra can have a word in the right shell-like ears re #NIWatergate - there is a win-win here for local community's physical & mental health, the environment, AND for @niwnews (whom I love really). @Carrick_Times

@cyculcc Yes - there has been access to the shore here since 1840s. Water Service installed & locked the gate in 1990s; but back then there were other access points & nobody bothered because it was a very busy road. Now it's bypassed and quiet, and *now* ppl realise they've been had.
