Algae in the intertidal zone use carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. They help balance #oceanacidity by releasing enzymes that break down carbon dioxide into bicarbonate ions. Without enough enzymes to form bicarbonate, the CO2 in the water increases, thus increasing the #acidity.
Marine organisms require optimal conditions inside their bodies to stay healthy. Increasing #OceanAcidity pushes organisms to use more energy to maintain healthy body fluid chemistry and grow critical body parts like muscle or shell. Thus impairing the organism's overall health.
Hurricanes are powerful. They can tear the roofs off houses and cause dangerous floods. Their impacts are even felt at the bottom of the ocean.
