For #WorldSoilDay check out @NHM_science research from myself @andres_baselga @adpalma @helenherself @cdmMulder @red_termite & @AndyPurvisNHM https://t.co/jdRUlH2joz we modelled #soil #biodiversity using #PREDICTSproject data 1/2

#PredictsProject newsletter is out today! @NHM_Science
* New PREDICTS data now available on the NHM Data Portal https://t.co/ogPfXJnSGc
* When Science and Art meet: Econario, by amazing @T_Biersteker https://t.co/uLkwh1t3e4
You can read it all here: https://t.co/yCwe72cFW3

More #PredictsProject data is now available on @NHM_data. Over 1m observations, from 9,610 locations and representing over 7
thousands species. The data
was collated from over 100 articles that
evaluate the responses of
biodiversity to human
pressures https://t.co/M2r3VVvDoJ

This work would not have been possible without the many contributors who shared data with #PREDICTSproject & the support of my 29 co-authors including @s_contu @adpalma @inverted_soil @tnewbold31 @AndrewVSuarez @sashasuryo @red_termite @jpws2 @AndyPurvisNHM
The first paper from my @NHM_Science PhD research is out in @BioMedCentral BMC Ecology and Evolution! We modelled data from the #PREDICTSproject to compare how abundances of soil & above-ground organisms respond to land use & soil properties https://t.co/laaN8nUoaM
#PredictsProject is part of a group effort to assesses past and future impacts of land use on biodiversity. Check out the paper (//https://t.co/7YCNgNyiNH) and #RShinyApp (https://t.co/B9Bgvm0WV5) to explore the results
To test this we analysed an amazing database of 6,801 sites worldwide (h/t #PREDICTSproject @AndyPurvisNHM), which we combined with data on host-pathogen interactions to identify zoonotic hosts 9/

Latest analyses of #PREDICTSproject by @Martin_Ecology @PedramRowhani and myself published in @NatureComms
New research reveals the true impact of abrupt land use changes and suggests that #biodiversity could be in a worse state than we might think...

New #PREDICTSproject study shows that abrupt land change reduces local biodiversity and that recovery often takes more than 10 years: https://t.co/NSIGKTS2IZ

Second PhD chapter has just been published in @NatureComms. In this work I link attributes of abrupt land change as detected in #Landsat imagery in the recent past with local biodiversity measures from the #PredictsProject https://t.co/qXwZGpnqvu @jpws2 @PedramRowhani (1)
I am going to miss the morning atmophere of crossing the @NHM_London on my way to the office. I will of course also miss the #predictsproject and PlantsUnderPressure! I shall see you all very soon

Scientists around the world are fighting to save the world's ecosystems. Efforts like #PredictsProject can help forecast patterns of species loss, and these vast data sets could reveal what we can do to stop it.

I've struggled with whether to publish this commentary. It critiques some of the work done as part of the #PredictsProject - and I like that bunch of people a lot. Hopefully this dialogue will help to inform future changes to the indicator and clarify any misunderstanding.
Widespread winners and narrow ranged losers: interesting new paper from #predictsproject shows declines in narrow ranged species offset by increases in widepsread species in human-disturbed land and the potential implications for ecosystem function
New paper from the #predictsproject: human use of the land for agriculture and settlements consistently reduces narrow-ranged species and increases widespread species. @AndyPurvisNHM @quicklizard @HillSam99 @jpws2 @carstmey https://t.co/UObBe3M2W7
Land use homogenizes #biodiversity in local assemblages worldwide, new #Predictsproject paper @tnewbold31 et al. shows that #landuse reduces number of narrowly-ranged species and increases already widespread species in @PLOSBiology

#PredictsProject uses museum data to measure the rate at which biodiversity declines. By mapping possible futures @adpalma @AndyPurvisNHM @SamanthaHi11 have found that we can not only stop the rate of biodiversity decline, but in some instances reverse it. #whymuseums
Thanks to everyone who came to talk to me about the #PredictsProject at my biodiversity innovation & solutions booth at #EgyptCOP14! If you want to learn more, see our publications at https://t.co/bA56y26l5I or get in touch :)
