Take a closer look 👀 Yes! There is a Sri Lanka Red Cross (SLRCS) emblem on the building. And plenty of them on the fuel dispensers too ⛽️👍
This petrol station is an Income Generating Activity (IGA) for the SLRCS in collaboration with Lanka IOC (Indian Oil Corporation).
SLRCS receives a percentage of the fuel sales thereby raising funds for humanitarian work. The LIOC-Red Cross Fuel Filling Station-Jaffna collaboration began in 2015.

Little known (and with little interest) we made history yesterday when I met Secretary General Fathimath Himya and Mr. Ibrahim Shameel at the @maldivianrc HQ ❤️🇲🇻
It has taken 3,523 days, or 9 years, 7 months, and 24 days, to symbolically connect the worlds largest humanitarian organization in a single unbroken journey (without flying). A total of 359,957km.
What started in 1863 has grown to have National Societies, and millions of volunteers, in 192 countries 👏
I have made a visit to the movement in 199 countries by including e.g. Scotland and Greenland 🏴/🇬🇱
It was a real pleasure to sit down with SG Himya and Mr. Shameel who are doing their utmost to improve the lives of the most vulnerable Maldivians ❤️🇲🇻

The economic downturn in Sri Lanka in 2022 caused unrest and gained global attention.
As an initiative in finding a solution to the shortage of medicines, Sri Lanka’s first ever medical donation matching platform, ‘Elixir’ was launched by the @SLRedCross in October 2022, along with the Ministry of Health and many other generous donors.
The initiative is a volunteer-led, public-private partnership run by the SLRCS. The volunteers assist with price negotiations as well as invoicing, shipping, and logistics.
‘Elixir’ also provides a streamlined interface for donors who want to support Sri Lanka right now ❤️

Aid for most humanitarian disasters is grossly underfunded. Collectively we can make a lasting impact on human lives.
In 2013, before I left Denmark, I was given the honor of traveling to every country in the world as goodwill ambassador of the Danish Red Cross.
The Red Cross was founded in 1863 and is today the world's largest humanitarian organisation. Amazingly it now exists in 192 countries around the world where it always aims at alleviating the suffering of the most vulnerable people.
According to the latest figures, some 339 million people in 69 countries will require humanitarian assistance in 2023, with the UN appealing for an increase of 25% in funding compared to last year, when responses were already only half met.
Examples of crises which demand immediate attention:
•The Horn of Africa
•Syria
•The Democratic Republic of Congo
•Myanmar
•Haiti
•The Sahel
•Afghanistan
•Israel/Palestine
•Venezuela
•South Sudan
•Ukraine
