Berita menarik buat penggemar botani dan alam semula jadi! Spesies tumbuhan baharu dari keluarga kopi-kopian (Rubiaceae) telah direkodkan.
Kenali 𝑻𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒏𝒂 𝒌𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒂, spesies tumbuhan baharu dalam famili Rubiaceae, yang hanya ditemui di Semenanjung Malaysia dan Semenanjung Thailand.
Dinamakan sempena ahli botani terkemuka, Dr. Wong Khoon Meng, spesies ini merupakan pokok bersaiz kecil atau renek yang boleh mencapai ketinggian sehingga 5 meter. Permukaan ranting mudanya licin dan berwarna hitam, beransur-ansur bertukar menjadi kelabu-coklat apabila matang. Daunnya berbentuk elips dan panjang dengan kelompok rambut kecil (tuft domatia) di sudut antara urat sekunder daun (Chen & Cheah, 2025).
Fakta Menarik:
✅ Spesies ini tumbuh di hutan tanah pamah dan kawasan bukit batu kapur, kedua-dua ekosistem yang kini semakin terancam di Malaysia.
✅ Menghasilkan tangkai bunga tegak yang terdiri daripa lapan sehingga 30 kuntum bunga dalam satu tangkai.
✅ Buah berbentuk bulat, kecil, berwarna hijau dan berpermukaan licin. Setiap tangkai buah mengandungi 8-17 biji buah
✅ Berbeza daripada spesies yang hampir serupa (T. stellulata dan T. insularis), spesies ini dicirikan oleh permukaan bawah daun yang sedikit keputihan serta kelopak bunga yang licin ketika masih kuncup.
Penemuan ini menunjukkan kekayaan biodiversiti rantau ini dan pentingnya usaha pemeliharaan habitat semula jadi.
