We spent some time today creating magnetic games, using the knowledge that we have gained from our Science lessons. π @StPhilipCEAP #teamstphilips #StPhilipsScienceY3

This week in Science, we have enjoyed looking at leaves in close detail, using a microscope and a magnifying glass. We became great scientists and logged our observations through accurate drawings. @StPhilipCEAP #teamstphilips #StPhilipsScienceY3

The gallery at the Catalyst Museum is an exciting place to explore and develop your science skills. We loved all of the challenges.

What a fantastic day we had at the Catalyst Museum in Widnes. The children demonstrated wonderful knowledge in the volcano workshop and made their own rocks and volcanoes.

To finish our science lesson, we used sticky sweets to model how metamorphic rocks are formed with heat and pressure. The children were amazed to hear that rocks were made millions of years ago.

Today, we investigated the porosity of sedimentary rocks. The children measured the mass or rocks before and after they had been placed in water and recorded their results accurately.

We have loved making shadows βοΈThe children have found out how shadows increase and decrease in size and how they change direction throughout the day. We are wonderful scientists in Year 3 #teamstphilips @StPhilipCEAP #StPhilipsScienceY3

The children have been investigating what causes shadows. Their use of scientific language was excellent.

What an interesting science lesson we had! The children investigated reflection to fine the most reflective material to make a shield for Perseus to battle Medusa. Using the data loggers was very exciting.

What an adventure we had! Who knew there was so much wildlife in our local area. The children explored the field and our woodland and found evidence of so many animals. Mole holes, animal racks and rabbit holes created most excitement.

Science Boffins were a fabulous start to science week. We had an exciting assembly followed by an exciting class workshop, complete with magical dry ice effects.

Today we explored the school grounds to survey the animal species that live there and look for evidence of animals that had been there. We identified lots of species, including; magpies, bees, robins and even a red kite!

Science is a favourite in Year 3 and this investigation led to lots of good science discussion. The children investigated if there was a connection between the size of leg muscles and the distance they could jump.

To begin our new science topic the children were asked to use bone shaped biscuits to build a human skeleton. We had lots of fun, and the children showed a lot of knowledge and understanding.

The children loved making these skeletons to launch our new Science topic - Skeletons, muscles and nutrition. It was great to hear all the knowledge they already had too, what wonderful Scientists they are!π§βπ¬π©βπ¬#StPhilipsScienceY3 #teamstphilips @StPhilipCEAP

A group of children were asked to build a skeleton out of jelly. This proved entertaining but taught the children the role of bones in support. The children grasped this well once they had washed their sticky hands.

Magnets are so much fun, but today we learnt the science behind what causes some materials to be attracted to them. We learned about magnetic fields and how magnets attract and repel.

We were blessed with sunshine for our trip to the orchard and had a wonderful time exploring the environment. As always we impressed Kev with our knowledge of plants and seed dispersal. Even a lady bee made an appearance.
