According to #Stace3 (I just checked!), A. apennina has a few hairs on the lowerside of the leaves & sepals vs A. blanda which has none. That's not much to go on! Only other option is wait for achenes to develop :-(

Good question below from @Roger_TL45Y! There's some great info on selected seeds in #Stace3 and #BSBIHandbooks but can anyone recommend a good resource for all British & Irish plants? A website perhaps?
@BSBIbotany I have been given some seed of Silene sp. Very pretty under microscope, but have failed to find id resources for seeds of BI plants. Any hints please?

@romandade @Dyslexiaware Could you tell us more please @romandade? #Stace3 doesn't mention difference in size between ray florets of Shaggy vs Gallant Soldiers, just talks about lobing on receptacle scales & hairs on pappus scale apices. It would be useful to have another diagnostic character to look for
@Dyslexiaware Probably but according to #Stace3 aka the Botanists' Bible, we shouldn't rely on hairiness, we should pull a flower apart & check how many lobes there are on the tiny scales between the florets! Want to have a go? #WildflowerHour

@romandade @fungi_flowers What do you think of the description of C. floribunda in #Stace3? Which field characters would you look for? Phyllaries not very hairy & disc flowers w/ 5-lobed corolla? How about v short cilia on basal leaves, a #VegKey character to separate from C. canadensis (w/long cilia)?
@BrianE_Cambs @kwid79 Couldn't agree more Brian! Students on my #BotanyforBeginners course often complain that ID keys are causing confusion & not as clear as they might be! They use combination of different books to come up with a ticklist of characters to look for. #Stace3 + #VegKey is a good combi!
