This week, #SOUTHCOM hosted @USNationalGuard adjutant generals and senior leaders representing 21 U.S. states and territories to chart the way forward for the #StatePartnershipProgram (SPP) in Latin America the Caribbean.
There are 24 State Partnerships aligned to 30 nations in the region where dozens of annual military-to-military engagements foster a hemisphere of resilient partners who actively contribute to the security and stability of the Western Hemisphere. Three of those partnerships – Ecuador-Kentucky, Peru-West Virginia, and Panama-Missouri – date back three decades.

Disaster response and humanitarian relief are a key part of maintaining national and global security. Today, the U.S. Embassy presented Tanzania Fire and Rescue Service with nine emergency shelters to bolster Tanzania’s disaster response capabilities. These tents enable first responders to rapidly deploy to protect those impacted by fire and natural disaster. This handover coincides with the establishment of the State Partnership Program with the Nebraska National Guard. In his role as The Adjutant General of the Nebraska National Guard, Major General Strong is also the Director of Nebraska Emergency Management Agency. The State Partnership Program offers opportunities to expand cooperation to strengthen emergency and disaster response capabilities.
