The entire conversation is a mess because people conflate things that should be distinct. And #ChronicPain patients pay the price.
The overdose crisis is driven by illicit fentanyl analogs, meth, heroin, and cocaine. Not Rx opioids.The #suicidesduetopain numbers are shocking. The danger of #untreatedpain is huge. The risk is much higher than that of overdose for #ChronicPain patients.

Humphreys here also falls into the reductionistic trap of assuming lower rates of #opioid rx'ing are better rates of opioid rx'ing. Surely the standard for assessing patient outcomes ought to be qualitative not quantitative unless you're counting bodies.
