Israel’s decision to attack Iran is a dangerous and unprecedented escalation, which endangers American servicemembers and civilians in the region, and puts countless other innocent lives at risk. Along with my colleagues, I will be closely monitoring the situation and urging the administration to ensure Americans remain out of harm’s way.  I urge the Trump administration and other leaders around the world to de-escalate the situation before it devolves into a prolonged, regional conflict that threatens the safety and security of millions of people and undermines U.S. national security interests. Like all Americans, I hope for a peaceful resolution as soon as possible.   While we should never forget that it was Trump who carelessly walked away from President Obama’s deal to contain the threat of an Iranian nuclear weapons program, President Trump and his administration must now do everything possible to de-escalate the situation.

I was in the room in Munich for VP Vance’s speech. No talk about Russia, Ukraine, China. Just criticisms of our allies and focus on “the threat from within.” His speech is going to embolden our adversaries who will see this as a green light to act while America is distracted/divided.

This rescue occurred in a civilian area, underscoring Hamas' disregard for Palestinian & Israeli life. Israel's ceasefire proposal has the backing of the US, G7 countries, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, UAE, Qatar, & the 16 countries with citizens held by Hamas. Hamas must accept.

Humanitarian orgs in Gaza are struggling to operate amid Israel’s offensive in Rafah, & other attempts to deliver aid—like the US-built pier—are proving insufficient. We need an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, & aid delivery to the millions in desperate need.

Six months after Hamas terrorists massacred 1200 Israelis, more than 130 hostages remain in the Gaza Strip, including 6 Americans.  In the time since October 7th, I have met with Israeli families who have had their loved ones taken hostage. I have listened to the stories of Palestinian-American constituents who have suffered the loss of their own relatives in this conflict.  The deep-seated pain, anger, and anguish expressed in those meetings was palpable. It was clear to me then as it is now that we need a different path forward.  We must secure a negotiated and sustained ceasefire to reunite the hostages with their families and scale up the delivery of essential humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
