Synthetic carpeting - especially #synthetic-turf is one of the products #PFAS made possible to cheaply manufacture in high volume. #Synturf became a Trojan Horse to spread petrochemical pollutants and PFAS all over the world where children & athletes play @SHPFC @PlasticsBeyond
Join us and @fastlerner for a webinar on July 24 at 7 PM ET US to dive into her recent exposé in @propublica @NewYorker of 3M’s decades-long cover-up of the “forever chemical PFOS/PFAS. Register now: https://t.co/cm5UyHoFZr #foreverchemicals #poisonplastic #toxicplastic
Latest recycling scam meant to make us feel better about plastic and plastic waste (including from #synturf plastic) bites the dust @PlasticsBeyond @SHPFC @SierraClub @sierr
Latest chemical recycling plant closing spurs concern over the industry’s viability
Oregon’s Regenyx plant announced its closing in late February, with those involved calling it a success, despite never reaching planned capacity and millions of dollars lost.

It LOOKS pretty but @EPA knows better! 😡 Plastic #synturf carpeting is #HotterThanAsphalt 🥵 & laden with #PFAS , endocrine disrupting chemicals including #Phthalates. What infill? Tire crumb adds lead, VOCs, carcinogenic PAHs and more @SHPFC @PEERorg @PlasticsBeyond
@EPAregion3 @marshallu @EPA @HerdBaseball @wvbrownfields @DEPWV @huntingtoncity @HuntingtonMayor Good luck @HerdBaseball, we’re rooting for you too. You need it.
“Look at it now” is right. 😵💫 Toxics on top of toxics. #PFAS
Make it make sense.
And why are federal government grants supporting fossil fuel industry?? Haven’t we ended this yet?? #ClimateCrisis #PlasticsTreaty
With 1-38 pounds of #PFAS in EACH standard football sized #synturf field- polluting air soil and water as these plastic carpets disintegrate -does #Pennsylvania @PennsylvaniaGov want to be known as a toxic waste dumping ground ? @SHPFC @PlasticsBeyond
‘Forever Fields’: How Pennsylvania became dumping ground for discarded artificial turf. CA has same + players who chop up old fields, send out of state for polluting “chemical” recycling. Downcycling into other products adds toxicity https://t.co/wMeAC313DN via @phillyinquirer
@David492111 I've always thought of plastic field carpeting (aka #synturf) as the field equivalent of steroids for athletes, to give a quick outwardly desirable but ultimately harmful and even deadly result. Difference is synturf harms innocent field users who have no choice. @shpfc
The synthetic turf manufacturers doth protest too much! #PFAS is what made/makes synthetic carpeting in general & #synturf in particular possible at such enormous scales with huge profits to the industries involved #BanPlasticTurf @shpfc
Skeptical that “Forever Chemicals” (#PFAS) are added to artificial turf?
An industry lobbyist, as part of his testimony opposing a California bill to ban artificial turf laced with PFAS, just told legislature the industry is working aggressively to get PFAS out of its products.
#synturf "recycling " is a story told so people feel its OK to buy an enormous #PFAS-laden plastic carpet they will need to trash in a few years @PlasticsBeyond @BanPlasticTurf @SenBillFerg @marylandmatters
"Meanwhile, the artificial turf they one day hope to recycle has been waiting around, stacked in sagging piles in Pennsylvania fields and parking lots." https://t.co/BHbnGctKed
And what about all the solid waste sources of #PFAS such as synthetic carpeting, especially #SyntheticTurf #synturf the manufacture of which on such a large scale was made possible by #PFAS for the extrusion of the plastic fibers for the fake grass blades @SHPFC @BeyondPlastAct
Well, this is great news. But what about all the #PFAS discharges that don't have NPDES permit limits for PFAS...?
https://t.co/fO5dIgdwSj
By "turf" to be clear it's plastic carpeting aka synthetic turf or #synturf - manufacture of the synturf plastic fibers made possible by the addition of #PFAS non-stick chemicals to the #plastic mix. #toxicturf @SHPFC @SenBillFerg @BeyondPlastAct
Pass #HB0299 #HB299! WHO is holding it up in the Maryland Senate? @SenBillFerg Europe was ahead of the US in adopting #synturf and is now facing #SynTurf mountains of #plastic and tire #waste @BrianJFeldman @SHPFC @marylandmatters
@KathyGreening @SHPFC @PlasticsBeyond @mocoboe This artificial turf mountain range is in the Netherlands... it's so large that they've had to build a road to the top!
.
ALERT! ALL Maryland Friends ! Support HB299 to Require a Chain of Custody for Reuse, Repurposing, Recycling, and Proper Disposal of Synthetic Turf aka #synturf ! https://t.co/97O1tA07sK

@PlasticsRebel Water passes through at first then it clogs up. That plastic carpet heats up #Synturf_hotter_than_asphalt ! Best to use a living green groundcover and some mulch if needed. No need for plastic-shedding, chemical-laden #synturf @SHPFC

The important point is not so much if the #PFAS in #synturf caused these cancers but that synturf contains PFAS even now -PFAS chemicals cause damage to the body & environment in many ways AND are CUMULATIVE @SHPFC @bennettpeer @UMDPublicHealth @BeyondPlastAct @NC4HR @YaleCancer
Pretty damning investigation @PhillyInquirer.
For those thinking “will our facility be found liable for future PFAS injury or contamination” - yes, yes you will…
And the supplier will bankrupt before they help (see AstroTurf, 2016)
#KeepItReal https://t.co/SHl9x1sIjh
@Adam_Russell5 @PhillyInquirer The most important point is not so much if the #PFAS in #synturf caused these particular cancers but that synturf contains PFAS then and now - since PFAS chemicals cause damage to the body and and environment in many ways AND IS CUMULATIVE @SHPFC @bennettpeer @BanPlasticTurf
If the #plasticgrass (#synturf) industry thinks grass is so bad why do they go to such extents to emulate it, right down to the scent? (=more chemicals) Face it SynTurf, you will never ever be as good as real grass no matter how hard you try.Far from it.

Public health reasons to steer clear of plastic synthetic turf #synturf carpeting for sports fields and lawns @SHPFC @CleanEarth4Kids

@tirelessdc @Against_3G @DCDPR @Shitlawns @PlasticsRebel @QuestnFakeGrass @amandafarber1 Like this flood affected artificial field in Brisbane. The grass field adjacent will be fine. See Mitchelton FC Brisbane #qldfloods
@MikeHudema And yet they keep installing plastic #synturf carpets which become 40-70 degF - hotter than asphalt in the sun🔥🥵 @SHPFC For #SafeHealthyPlayingFields #GrassCanTakeMore
Bravo! "no child fried outside" on #synturf ! Children need safe healthy playing fields - exposure to cool grass and healthy soil helps their immune systems develop correctly. Toxin laden plastic and synthetic rubber harms them @BeyondPlastAct @SHPFC
We were outside DEFRA today to highlight our open letter to the Secretary of State to ban sales of artificial turf now! We are not going away. We will see this through✊✊🐝
