#TMOT18 I wonder what Tom was burning? It’s clear he stole gold from Polly, but what papers could he be burning? This book seems to have a nack for talking about papers but not disclosing their contents. Could the papers be the Julia’s papers that Polly stole?

#TMOT18 I think the fact that Sandy did not attend prayer meeting had meaning: Because he missed his prayers, Sandy was not protected from the manipulation he faced. Also, this chapter shows the negative effects of drinking, since it allows the most horrid deeds to go unnoticed.

I think I found out the answer to Sandy’s riddle, which was “ef I wus in yo’ place, an’ you wuz in my place, and we wuz bofe in de same place, whar whar would I be?” I think the answer might be a white man, based on Tom’s reaction #tmot18

A little touch of romantiscim can be seen in Sandy’s phtasmagoric episode of seeing his own “ha’nt”. You can still see that Chesnutt wrote this in the times of early America #tmot18

#tmot18 where does Tom suddenly get all the money from and does it have any connection to the previous foreshadowing of killing Polly Ochiltree? Also does Sandy seeing his “ha’nt” foreshadow his death or does it connect to something else?
