#TheTallTarget (1951) : A thrilling tale of President Lincoln's assassination on a train that did not succeed. The protagonist is named John Kennedy; now, that’s the first blow from the writer. The film centers on a planned assassination of President Abraham Lincoln when he was supposed to deliver a speech. He is set to board the train, and then one of the cadets would take a shot at him. Sergeant Kennedy, who suspected this already, resigns from his job and boards the train to stop the killing. He doesn’t have a ticket, but he is helped by one of his friends, Jeffers. After a while, it is revealed that even Jeffers is part of the killing gang. An imposter boards the train as Mr. Kennedy, but the real Mr. Kennedy manages to handle things on his own. With many attempts to kill him, Kennedy successfully saves himself every time until the train reaches Baltimore. Now, what happens at the station is something that should be kept a secret. The Tall Target has a thrilling plot and engaging pacing that takes you on a busy ride of around 80 minutes. Since it’s not a long film, you don’t really feel bored at all. There aren’t any scenes that feel like a waste of time or stretch the narrative, and this does not happen with many thrillers, as you must know. With a brilliant twist at the end, it provides satisfaction and a fulfilling experience overall. The lead actor, Dick Powell, delivers an impeccable performance, while Adolphe Menjou was just perfect in his role. Paula Raymond adds glamour in her small role, whereas Ruby Dee adds more context to the story. Marshall Thompson looked fine too. Paul C. Vogel’s cinematography was fantastic, and the editing is crisp. Overall, this is another very good film in Anthony Mann’s filmography that should not be missed by his fans and genuine movie buffs. RATING - 7/10* #AnthonyMann #DickPowell #PaulaRaymond #AdolpheMenjou #RubyDee #RichardRober #MarshallThompson #WillGeer #FilmReview #MovieReview #OldHollywood #CrimeThriller #AbrahamLincoln

***ANNOUNCEMENT*** Coming on December 17th on Blu-ray from @WarnerArchive: #TheTallTarget (1951)! Former police officer John Kennedy doesn’t have a ticket, but he’s determined to stay aboard the overnight train rolling from New York to Washington, D.C. He’s convinced that someone – or someones – among the passengers intends to kill newly-elected President Abraham Lincoln when the train stops in Baltimore. The true-life “Baltimore Plot” provides the inspiration for this M-G-M thriller directed with film noir overtones by auteur Anthony Mann. Under his distinctive direction, The Tall Target possesses a real feel for the powder-keg political atmosphere of 1861. Dick Powell (Murder, My Sweet) portrays Kennedy with appropriate grit, sifting through layers of duplicity and confronting escalating dangers as the Night Express rumples towards destination…or assassination. @phyll_indablank Between #TheTallTarget and #StationWest, I'm beginning to wonder if Dick Powell had a monopoly on 1800s Noir #TCMParty

Dick Powell as "John Kennedy" in #TheTallTarget is next level eerie- Powell died months before JFK. Both lost too soon 💔#TCMParty

@sbliss89 @parrothead34 @fallonthornley @chrisreederATX @Dorvid4 Given the number of train movies that involve homicide, it's a wonder that anyone ever rides one. #SilverStreak #TheNarrowMargin #FromRussiaWithLove #TheTallTarget #HowTheWestWasWon #MurderOnTheOrientExpress #TrainToBusan #TCMParty #SUTS #CaryGrant #NorthByNorthwest #NXNW

Excellent noir cinematography in #TheTallTarget by Paul Vogel, who shot war movies, musicals, and action pictures for Ford, Wellman and many other directors in a varied career that stretched from the silent era to 60s television. #TCMParty

#TCMParty I really enjoyed #Call1119. I've been a big fan of Marshall Thompson since I was a kid and he was the star of Daktari. He's really good in #MysteryStreet and #TheTallTarget, too.
