Looks like I have all of #PixelVision8’s core #UI rendering. Just a few misc components left now. Hoping to switch gears over to coding these all up today. I realized I could use my #TinyCard prototype to take a stab at making a WYSIWYG UI builder. #gamedev #pixelart #ux

Well this was a productive morning! Looks like #TinyCard’s new pattern picker works! Only 1.5 hours of work. Still a bit of UI cleanup to do. I still need to get the brush reading the pattern but I think I can pack it up and get ready for work. #gamedev #pixelart #ux

I also wired up #TInyCard’s new brush size picker last night. Created a simple picker component & pop-up panel with window chrome. After I finish the pattern picker, the brush will read pixel data from a pattern as it draws. This is finally coming together! #gamedev #PixelArt #UX

Couldn’t sleep, so I got up early & started building #TinyCard’s pattern picker. Didn’t take me long. All of the canvas APIs are there so it’s just a matter of reading the sprites, setting the pattern, & drawing filled rectangles. Now to wire it all up! #gamedev #ux #pixelart

Been busy at work so progress on #TinyCard is slow going. So many little details to implement in the drawing engine. Like how the pen inverts its color if its under a black or white pixel. Only tool that does it. At least I have all the drawing APIs in! #GameDev #PixelArt #UX

So close to having #TinyCard paint logic working. You can almost taste it! Just wired up the editor mode buttons & toggling the last selected tool button. Now I just need to port @PixelVision8’s canvas code from Lua to C# and I’ll be in business. #gamedev #pixelart #ux

I also cleaned up how #TinyCard enables/disables menus after I added some basic logic for creating new cards. Now it knows which nav options to make available when moving between cards (Id is in the bottom right while I test). #gamedev #pixelart #UX #TinyCard

Started implementing the canvas in #TinyCard & found an edge case I hadn’t accounted for. When the canvas is filled, the menus looked funny. So I added a white outline. Lot of little design considerations to think about when you only have 2 colors. #pixelart #gamedev #ux

Had a few minutes before my 1st meeting so added callbacks & enabling/disabling options in #TinyCard’s menus. Not a lot of pixels at this rez for a 1-bit disabled state. This is as close as I can get to how the original Mac handled graying out options. #gamedev #pixelart #ux

Let’s pretend like I’m not a perfectionist and this menu system didn’t actually take me 2 weekends to make from scratch. Finally at the point where I can start wiring up the “easy” part of #TinyCard, the drawing tools and moving between cards! #gamedev #pixelart #ux.

It takes a lot to make a HyperCard clone. Spent last night organizing the UI code into @PixelVision8 OS & #TinyCard class files. Still have to get the text editor ported over from Lua but this is basically what I need to run the simple looking UI. #screenshotsaturday #gamedev

This this is where I’m going to call it a day. Got #TinyCard’s icon menu to show a drop shadow and a divider to split up the UI tools from the drawing tools just like #HyperCard. Think this covers all the edge cases for drawing menus, now I just need to wire it up! #gamedev #ux

Looks like I’m finally getting #TinyCard’s menu system rendering correctly. So many little details I didn’t account for that I accidentally avoided in @PixelVision8 by only having a single drop-down. Going to keep hacking away at this until I get it right! #gamedev #pixelart #ux

Even though #LDjam is over I’m still hacking away at my #TinyCard idea. I refactored all of the UI. It’s super modular now and I added checkboxes, different text button layouts, and pop up menus. Almost have enough UI to make this all work. #gamedev

Throwing in the towel on #ld48. Wasn’t even close! This is how far I got. Totally underestimated how hard it would be porting @PixelVision8’s Lua UI system to C#. Think I’ll keep working on #TinyCard for a few more weeks & take a break from PV8. Then merge the new code in. #ldjam
