We can’t say this tool gets much use any more but we’ve developed a bit of a soft spot for this portable microfiche viewer. Intended to save space, this little unit can display on desktops or walls. This retro tool lives in our Special Collections. #ToolsOfTheLibraryTrade

Then and now - for today’s #ToolsOfTheLibraryTrade we are showcasing the tools used to separate pages when preparing newspapers for scanning.
On the left is the more modern paper cutter provided by our conservator, while on the right is a well-used machete.
Fortunately, we plan accordingly, both with short- and long-term disaster planning! Since we missed last week's #toolsofthelibrarytrade, here's a small sample (tarps, hard hats, and mops) of the tools we keep well-stocked in the event of an emergency.
