Yesterday was another busy day for @Suffolk_Law at #WIPIP2022! Prof. Lolita Darden @lldarden shared her experiences during a panel on serving underserved communities via IP Clinics, and Assoc. Dean Leah Grinvald @LCGrinvald was a co-moderator for this important discussion.

And, @david__simon suggests, to reduce drug development cost, you could reduce FDA efficacy requirements and sub out CMS evaluation of efficacy (more reimbursement for higher evidence of efficacy).

If you think off-label use is a problem, CMS reimbursement can help: change ratings CMS accepts for off-label uses; raise level of evidence required for reimbursement (would reduce off-label prescribing)

Physicians are theoretically unconstrained in prescribing drugs, but really, they're constrained by money, and CMS matters a lot for that (via Medicaid and Medicare); it decides whether to cover off-label uses (via private evaluation entities)
