@KStratCrespo This can be hard. I try to support what I’m saying/requesting with data. I think specifically about when I have to really advocate for both sections of my WC class. Data speaks loudly when you can show your impact on the entire school! #wcchat
A6: My tutors have been coming with with catchy events just to get people to come by our center. Limericks and lollipops, Rice Krispies and resolutions, hot cocoa and haikus #wcchat
A6: I need to be louder. I’m quieter by nature, so that leads to less visibility especially on a very busy and loud campus. Because being loud doesn’t come naturally for me, this is another pretty heavy bit of emotional labor. But, that’s just part of the job. #wcchat
A5: Most people don’t really understand what the writing center really does, and come in just asking for a proofreading, so it can feel like we’re being under utilized, if that makes sense? #wcchat
A5: Like all roles on campus, no one really understands a job unless they are currently doing it. Same for WC directors. I am grateful for a supportive principal and now even more appreciative of the wider WC community (that I wish I joined much earlier). #wcchat
A4: Emotional labor blends with all of the daily tasks, but the most difficult is navigating volunteer tutors who stop showing up, which sometimes involves dismissing them from the program. It doesn’t happen often, but it never gets easier. It always stings. #wcchat
