In-season applied nitrogen directly effects deep water use in a season where deep soil water needed to be used. Efficiently using that nitrogen the only way to guarantee deep water use during grainfill. 💦🌾 More may not be better. #YFIG

This little passion project shedding light on N behaviours and impacts on cropping systems in a MRZ deep sand. Also providing management strategies to monitor and make decisions based on N movement and availability. Input N losses likely much worse than we expect. #COGGO #YFIG

LRZ legumes @GGA with #YFIG. Brown manure vetch vs grain legume. Conserving moisture for value added consumption, when is the best place in the system to get value out of rainfall?

Seriously fascinating soil moisture curves in the #COGGO #YFIG soil nitrogen project. N is producing more water consuming canopy, but increased canopy is improving water infiltration away from the evaporative surface. Canopy production is critical to harvest small rain events.

Sampling day at the #yfig #COGGO nitrogen trial. Some plot differences already showing up for N leaching and capture in a below average year. When it come to fertiliser, efficient is sustainable, and inefficient can be costly. Worth being on the front foot with #awkward #truths

Soil moisture starting to really head the wrong direction in the mid west region. Fingers crossed the forecasters are wrong and there is some relief soon for local crops. Nitrogen strategies really starting to show up on soil probes. #coggo #YFIG 🤞

Last year in the Geraldton port zone, #YFIG'S @NicoleBatten2 @eyres_N looked at lupin & vetch rotations (brown manured/ harvested). In '23 they'll look at N carryover in wheat. Find out more about the #legumesWA trials within the @GGA_WA / @theGRDC project https://t.co/xNXU4meAYW

A day with #YFIG having lots of big discussions about legumes, risk and profitable grain production. More interesting discussions to come @katfleay @belindaeastough @RobCamp11 #COGGO and @GGA_WA getting a run on the agenda

Compare the pair Living farm going above and beyond to make this Soil Nitrogen project a success. Dial in 40mm of isolated storms over a single treatment as a negative control for soil N supply ! Maybe this will make it rain ?? 🌾💦 #YFIG @Living_Farm @katfleay #COGGO

GGA legume project in the LRZ. Capturing early moisture and turning it into a solid rotation. The yellow out the back still want💦 The fallow and brown manure plots already done their job and looking for termination. Watch. Observe. Learn -> Improve 🌱 #YFIG @GGA_WA

Fertiliser use efficiency is one thing, but #naturalcapital is a whole other thing. I guess I might look at things differently, but hopefully something interesting comes of this little passion project ! Wheat on vetch, post amelioration ✌️🌱💦 @NACC_NRM #YFIG

Great day yesterday with Yuna Farm Improvement Group. Discussions about post and pre emergent strategies, new Canola hybrids and finishing with a great bbq at the impressive M. Gould’s tractor museum. Note: some serious crops in the region! 💪🏼 @RabobankAU #YFIG #farming
