I missed #degreegate & the resultant hilarity. But that chic dindu nuffin wrong. In fact y'all were able to dunk on her all day because of the fact that she hawks(Ed) matumbo. A lot of the decisions y'all fake outrage negus take in your lives are meant to avoid degriless people.
@JamJarOppo This was openly talked about by many of the new starters we had when #DegreeGate started .. they had no intention of staying, just keeping low, getting a degree without Β£50K+ debt and going elsewhere to forge a career ..
Really pleased to see the met bail out of compulsory degrees and the post graduate diploma. Finally a move back towards quality well trained officers prepared for the streets. Let's continue towards bringing back the compulsory residence which was so valuable. #degreegate
#degreegate, hopefully the beginning of the end. We really need to invest in proper police training, in proper residential training schools. I am underwhelmed by the experience recruits get at the moment.

This is what quality training looked like. It all went wrong when we decided it was too "dated" over the years we have thrown the baby out with the bathwater. A university just isnt the place to deliver this #degreegate

We need to get back to basics in training schools and put yet another post 2010 disaster in policing behind us #degreegate
What's been the point here ... how has anyone (apart from the CFO at the university concerned) gained anything from this fiasco #degreegate
If all police officers HAVE to HAVE degrees I'd rather they joined with them and at least provide a diversity of subjects than make them all do PCDA. At least we could then send them all to a proper training school not university #degreegate
My feelings on #degreegate are very mixed. Has it worked like it was meant too, probably not, was it a move to professionalise policing, yes. The challenges which need to be addressed, a short π§΅
Incidentally, this is from 2015 (via @EmWilliamsOU), which I think was when #degreegate first surfaced (that it did so on a conference slide. got the whole thing off to a very bad start).
The final point was neutralised by the apprenticeship levy (except for pre-join degrees).

@kvnbhrly1 @RoamingRoyston Correct-then they made changes to pension payments. The influx of new recruits, even without #degreegate meant Forces were unable to cope. Hence we started Street Duty Courses. Definitely deja vu, but worse, there is no accommodation, and the pool of recruits is fast drying upβ¦

@JSHKT20 @CollegeofPolice @PoliceChiefs Itβs been abundantly clear for some time. #Degreegate is attracting a very specific demographic. The mix of applicants forces used to get, well and truly gone. However, no one wants to admit that.
