@lip_bu's keynote at @Intel's #intelvision2025 event marked a pivotal moment in its #AI and #semiconductor journey. I was impressed with @lip_bu's inaugural keynote as CEO, who laid out a strong vision centered on #innovation, competitive #foundry leadership, and (perhaps most importantly) #cultural transformation. The presentation emphasized Intel’s aim to accelerate growth, deepen customer engagement, and shape the future of AI infrastructure.
Here's the big things that jumped out at me:
A New Era of Leadership and Focus Emphasis: Tan opened with a message about unlocking inner greatness—both individual and organizational. He stressed the importance of reconnecting with customers, stating that his first priority as Chairman was listening and learning from Intel’s partners. This people-first mindset set the tone for a broader cultural reset across Intel.
Advancing AI and Semiconductor Technologies: Tan highlighted several technology vectors driving Intel’s growth strategy, such as next-gen materials and packaging as Intel is investing in new materials science for advanced semiconductor applications. The goal is to create more powerful and efficient chips for a range of uses, from the #datacenter to #edge computing.
#Generative and #agenticAI’s role in life sciences was a focus, especially its potential to transform #healthcare. Tan referenced strategic investments and collaborations aimed at applying AI to drug discovery and diagnostics.
Tan also passionately spoke of #system #design enablement: Drawing on his experience leading @Cadence, Tan emphasized how Intel plans to shorten design cycles and improve time-to-market through ecosystem partnerships and strategic acquisitions.
These moves aim to shift Intel from low single-digit growth to a double-digit trajectory.
Most impressively, Tan spoke of #innovation through talent and teams. Tan reiterated that innovation doesn’t come solely from technology—it comes from people. He called on engineers to “ignite the spark from within” and to collaborate across disciplines. Intel is actively working to attract new technical talent and build high-performing teams capable of navigating fast-moving markets.
The keynote also noted the ongoing shift in software paradigms. AI is driving changes in computing architecture, especially around no-code and low-code platforms. These shifts demand flexible, adaptable solutions that Intel aims to provide.
Tan didn't ignore the elephants in the room: Intel's AI competitiveness and its foundry strategy.
One of the most significant themes was restating Intel’s ambition to lead in AI infrastructure and foundry services. Tan acknowledged Intel’s lag in AI positioning but made clear that bridging this gap is a top priority. Big changes are coming in those departments.
Other key points he made: foundry trust and differentiation as Intel aims to build a trusted foundry business by deeply understanding customer design requirements and offering unique, secure supply chain options.
Tan reminded the audience of global chip demand. With nations prioritizing semiconductor sovereignty, Intel plans to meet demand through scalable, resilient manufacturing partnerships—especially through its #IFS (#IntelFoundryServices) arm. Moreover, with regard to AI acceleration, Intel is increasing its investment in AI hardware and software, intending to deliver competitive, power-efficient platforms across the compute spectrum.
The bottom line: Tan closed the keynote with optimism, gratitude and a surprising display of humility (unusual for a CEO in #SiliconValey). He framed Intel’s transformation as a long-term journey fueled by curiosity, partnership, and trust.
It was a good first day for @lip_bu and a reason to be optimistic about @Intel's prospects.
Here's my #SmartTechCheck conversation with @jckgld about #LBT's keynote.
