Pertinent dental knowledge coming here from the endodontic realm, also in #OCNA Dec 2024 issue! 1st and 2nd maxillary molars have 4 root canals over 50% of the time (1st molars ~75%). Missing the 4th MB2 canal is very common cause of failed max molar root canal treatments! Guess which teeth cause the most #ODS? Yep, these ones! Here are some figures to show. Great case last week worth multiple posts! First, it highlights some cool points from Ch. 2 of the #ODS #OCNA @PlasSurgENTClin issue on #endodontic and #perio dental anatomy. Root anatomy is MUCH more complex than most doctors know! For one, can have multiple apical foramina per root. This case also shows an "endo-perio" lesion. Much more to learn in Ch. 2! Happy 4th! 🇺🇸 Apparently this is my 1000th post. Crazy. Yes I need more hobbies. Since @ent_ams and I have been delving DEEPLY into the nebulous world of dental disease and treatments for #ODS for upcoming #OCNA issue, figured I’d share a little diagram I drew in the OR, highlighting key components of a root canal treatment for a periapical abscess (PAA) (yellow). The ? is, how often does the PAA resolve, and how often does an assoc’d #ODS resolve? #ODS LAYERS coming at you in Dec 2024! @DrSujanaENT @henryfordent @MartaKwiat_ska @MakaryENT
@JohnCraigNose I mean, the read isn’t wrong, they just missed the clear source. Another great example of why I always want to see the images and don’t care what the report says. The eye of a surgeon is different than the eye of a radiologist! (Not better, just different 😊)
Working on one of these #OtoClinics #OCNA chapters for our #ODS issue coming later this year. Looking for the perfect figures to spice things up, and came across this gem from years ago (but probably won't be in the book). Just so good at teaching that continuity between a periapical lesion on CT and what you think is the maxillary sinus lumen, is NOT usually a direct communication through the sinus mucosa. Bacteria can still spread of course. This book is going to be pretty cool 😎🧐👃🦷 @henryfordent @ent_ams
