I am creating a side-project powered by @djangoproject and #Python and decided to use types similar to @typescript to introduce type-safety and oh boy it's harder than #TypeScript. I had to install stubs similar to @types and configure #Pyright to ensure I am typing correctly.

@brianwisti having just implemented typing "hints" for a work codebase, I find it is a bit nicer -- if only because it means we've codified the outputs. integrating #pyright with #ale in #vim and I get actual type related feedback that I find helpful. I feel ya.

So glad to return to #python development after years to find many options around strong typing. #typeguard for runtime type checking and #pyright for static type checking are both great

I wonder if #pyright could be used to compare Python types to #typescript types to confirm that data passed between backend and frontend are equivalent. That would be amazing for Python web development (...maybe @gvanrossum is working on this)

I decided that retirement was boring and have joined the Developer Division at Microsoft. To do what? Too many options to say! But it’ll make using Python better for sure (and not just on Windows :-). There’s lots of open source here. Watch this space.

Nerd post: I installed a python static type checker, #pyright, and it immediately found a "variable r might be unbound" error. I have no idea why I ever thought that code would work. And I had tests covering that code too! Up with static type checkers!
