A couple of hours back, we successfully concluded the presser announcing THE list of companies (a list, and not a rank) of the #Avtar & #Seramount Best Companies for Women in India! The 9th edition of India’s largest gender analytics study features companies across various industries from IT, BFSI and healthcare to E-com, telecom, retail and more.
Let’s dive into some key highlights of this year’s reports.
When it comes to women's representation in the best companies, the number remains stable at an impressive average of 36.6%. To frame it in context, when we started this exercise in 2016, women’s representation at the best companies stood at 25%.
· Sectors like professional services sector are now progressing towards gender-balanced representation at 46.1%, while FMCG, manufacturing and pharma reported gender ratios of 23%, 20%, and 17% respectively, this year.
· At the entry level, average women’s representation across sectors is 40%.
I’m particularly encouraged by women’s attrition rates, which is marginally lower than that of men across levels in the Best companies.
· Women’s attrition rate at the Top Companies is at an impressively low 14.5%.
· GCCs shine with a mere 10% attrition rate for women.
· FMCG excels in retaining women in leadership roles, boasting an attrition rate of just 2.6%.
However, manufacturing continues to lose women at the highest rate (28%), which tells us that there is scope and opportunity for improvement.
Companies are also increasingly implementing supportive policies for women getting back to work after a break:
· 100% of the top firms and 84% of the best companies offer formal returnship programs.
In the Best Companies for Women – Emerging Icons, women represent 32.81% of the workforce, with 26.25% at leadership levels. While these figures are promising, they reveal a wealth of possibilities for advancement.
The ‘Most Inclusive Companies Index’ (MICI) shows a significant rise in organizations prioritizing diversity, including People with Disabilities (PwDs) and LGBTQ+ individuals. Today, 98% of companies and 89% of them focus on creating inclusive environments for PwDs and LGBTQ+, respectively.
It's heartening to see organizations across India committing to workplaces where diversity thrives. And the consistent improvement in practices adopted by the Best companies over the last 9 years tells us DEI progress is possible with focused action. As we approach a decade of the BCWI, we’re excited to harness the power of diversity and data to convert the goal of equality into a reality!
