I provided a good amount of context in the Slack thread in #themereview.
Over the course of this review, we started with the full onboarding wizard, then had to pull it out and put it in a plugin, then we had to pull it out of the plugin and put it back in the theme, then we chopped it down and warped it considerably to fit the many objections of reviewers and angsty passersby. Finally, we pulled it out of the theme and put it back in a plugin once things got too weird.
By the end of all of that, we'd removed some of the more valuable features and fractured what we considered a great overall experience. Could we spend another few weeks cobbling everything back together? Probably. But I have a feeling we'd continue to face a heightened level of scrutiny without some kind of system or understanding in place. What if we wanted to add more features? And we do have interest of providing pro features one day. Another thing that would likely be a source of great tension. I'm already being accused of acting in commercial self interest here!
Having the support of Matt and Josepha (and many, many others) is great, I don't take it for granted one bit. I think that's an important thing for everyone to take note of, as it speaks to their desire to evolve. If we'd had this chat from the start, perhaps we could have framed it in a proactive way that prevented the turbulence.
Support from those folks is one thing, but actually having to deal with the day-to-day burden and optics and politics and commentary of this thing before its even on the repo is not something I have the time or energy for. I'm about to be a new dad! I have to refocus and cut my losses here. We'll regroup soon and figure out the best way to bring this thing to the masses.

@dmpinder @benswrite @AstraWP Yep. To me that says a lot. Also, after following the Slack discussions on the #themereview channel, I don't know if I'll be able to trust this company.
The way they handled the situation and played the victim card is just not aligned with the morals/values I'd like WP to have.
