@golan @caleb_ogg I defy you to find a more low-tech version than Schema Luminoso Variabile (1962) by Grazia Varisco of Gruppo T. It was re-created in electronic form by Reprogrammed Art, a collaborative that includes arduino co-creator Massimo Banzi #variablemedia

code needs to perform, it can't be captured. when you create generative art in the way some of my work exists, the instant it gets encoded in video for the web or represented as an image, it kills everything that's essential to it.

On its face this seems to be an argument against on-chain SVG. But it's actually an argument against all digital art creation and conservation from the last 40 years, which is a history of accommodating (and sometimes celebrating) changes in the display medium #VariableMedia

@caffeinum With art, when you purchase a piece, you don't expect it to look different in ten years because technology changed. In fact, if your piece is valuable enough, you spend a lot of money combatting the effects of time on organic material. Same with digital art, but cost is up-front.
