Mumbai Pune under environmental threat from businesses..
The image is a tweet by **Zoru Bhathena**, highlighting a dispute over the classification of reclaimed land used for the **Bandra Worli Sea Link** in Mumbai. The core issue revolves around whether this land falls under the **Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ)**. According to **Adani Group** and the **Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC)**, this land no longer qualifies as CRZ because it is now considered "too far from the sea."
### **Key Points from the Tweet and News Snippet:**
- The **Adani Group** and **MOEFCC** argue that the reclaimed land can be developed because it lies outside CRZ limits.
- **Zoru Bhathena** and **Bandra Reclamation Area Volunteers** have filed a **Public Interest Litigation (PIL)** seeking:
- Strict adherence to CRZ regulations.
- A halt to any development, aiming to preserve the land as **green open space**.
- Restoration of the land's original designation under CRZ.
### **Concerns Raised:**
- The tweet suggests that if this argument (of land being "too far from sea") is accepted, it could set a **dangerous precedent** for the **development of other green open spaces along Mumbai's Coastal Road**, potentially harming the city's environment and coastal ecosystem.
- **Zoru Bhathena** implies that this is part of a larger trend where **reclaimed coastal lands** may be opened up for private development under the guise of being outside CRZ, risking public access to green spaces.
### **Context of CRZ Regulations:**
- CRZ rules are designed to protect **coastal environments** by regulating development activities near the shoreline.
- Reclaimed land's classification within or outside CRZ has significant implications for **environmental protection**, **urban planning**, and **public access** to coastal areas.
### **Implications:**
- If the reclaimed land is officially considered outside CRZ, **private players** could develop these areas, potentially leading to:
- **Loss of public green spaces.**
- **Environmental degradation** due to increased construction.
- A **domino effect** where similar arguments might be used for other reclaimed coastal lands in Mumbai and elsewhere.
### **Conclusion:**
This dispute highlights the **tension between urban development and environmental conservation**. The outcome of this PIL could influence future **coastal land use policies** in Mumbai and other Indian coastal cities.
Land that was reclaimed
from sea
to build Bandra Worli Sea Link
no longer falls in CRZ
as it is too far from sea
So says Adani
This is the 𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦 of Bandra Reclamation's green open spaces
A 𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦 which will soon spread to all the green open spaces along Coastal Road

También nos toca despedir a #Zoru, otro perrete que conseguimos que cambiase la calle por una familia maravillosa en Asturias. Zoru ha vivido como un rey, en un entorno envidiable, muchos paseos, mucha playa, pero sobre todo mucho amor.
