Wishing everyone a safe and Happy 4th of July!
We also want to send a massive thank you to our @HBLCIVIC , @NHBCivic and @russosonthebay for sending food to feed the officers at the 106 Pct today. We are so grateful for our community's constant support! ๐บ๐ธ๐
Yesterday the @NYC_DOT ๐คฅ Associate Deputy Commissioner, Sean Quinn of the Office of Livable Street testified regarding obstacles to life safety on Montague Street in Brooklyn that were brought to our attention by the local firehouse.
โIn our designs specifically making sure that nothing is in with the 30 feet coverage on Montague St.specifically, it didn't meet the definition of a major transportation project so it wasn't submitted through the portal. However, we did an on site with the local house and have moved all of the barricades away indicated or issues post implementation. So we were out there with them working to make sure that anything that may not have been within that 30 foot, if anything shifted or moved, we've since moved it and had that on the ground coordination."
FDNY FF Forsyth from that same local firehouse testified that all of the obstacles hindering emergency response and blocking fire hydrants remained in place and they were never consulted.
Iโve seen the videos of kids throwing snowballs at NYPD officers in Washington Square Park.
Officers, like all city workers, have been out in a historic blizzard, keeping New Yorkers safe and cars moving.
Treat them with respect. If anyoneโs catching a snowball, itโs me.
This is exactly why legislation regarding blocked fire hydrants is so incredibly important.
By parking at a fire hydrant, you could be the cause of someone losing their life, or for a firefighter to be hurt, or for a fire to not be able to be contained in a timely fashion. We need to send a strong message - park on a hydrant, and you will pay.
That's why I want to see fines raised from $115 to $1000 dollars, and for offenders to be held criminally negligent if someone is hurt or killed because of their decision to block a hydrant.
Thank you for covering this, @QueensChronicle. I pray for the person lost and his loved ones, and I hope we can prevent any more tragedies like this from occurring in the future.
Hey @NYCWater - we've been asking you guys to fix this water main break at Myrtle Ave and Forest Park Drive in Glendale since Jan. 16. It's become a skating rink several times now, thanks to the freezing temperatures, and people are getting hurt. Can somebody explain why this has gone unrepaired for over a month? Because this is completely ridiculous
The Andrew Cuomo โExperienceโ
โข Caused the subprime mortgage crisis as HUD Secretary: this led to the financial crisis of 2008.
โข The Father of Bail Reform: As Governor he signed this into law which has caused NYCโs #1 Public safety issue, recidivism. Donโt take my word for it @NYPDPC, @ericadamsfornyc & @JohnMChell have all stated this numerous times.
โข The Father of Raise The Age : As Governor he signed this into law which has not only also helped recidivism to rise there has been an explosion of youth gang violence across NYC.
โข The Father of Discovery law: This law puts impossible demands on already overburdened and understaffed DA offices and is the direct cause for many misdemeanor and even felony cases being dropped and adds more grease to the revolving doors of justice.
โข The Father of the repeal of 50A: As Governor Andrew Cuomo wanted police disciplinary records to be made readily available while at the same time fighting to seal criminal records of convicted criminals. This has energized activist groups and this info has been used to demoralize, demonize and emasculate the NYPD.
โข Defund The Police: During the โsummer of love in 2020โ Andrew Cuomo stated that the defund the police movement โis a legitimate school of thoughtโ he also blamed the NYPD for the looting and excused the rioters and looters.
โข The Father of Lockdowns: Andrew Cuomo arbitrarily shut down mom & pop businesses while allowing big corporations to stay open. This caused many businesses to shut and created mass job loss.
โข Andrew Cuomo Fired Nurses who worked throughout the entire pandemic. He also shut out patient facilities and issued protocols to not allow treatment with proven effective medications & treatments while locking elderly patients in nursing homes. He is attributed to having caused over 15,000 deaths but in my opinion the number is much higher and does not include just our elderly.
โข Andrew Cuomo refused to allow COVID patients onto the hospital ship Trump sent as well as the temporary hospitals Trump built around NYC. This led to the death of many patients who could have been saved but instead caused a rush onto hospitals and overwhelmed hospital staff.
โข Andrew Cuomoโs policies are nearly identical to Zohran Mamdaniโs. At the 2nd debate on NY1 they agreed on nearly every issue. Zohran Mamdani said ICE is a reckless agency and Andrew Cuomo went further left to say he would use the NYPD to stop ICE.
Is this the โexperienceโ you are voting for ?
Vote @CurtisSliwa For NYC Mayor !
Today, as Co-Chair of @NYCCCommonSense, I joined my colleagues, civic groups, and community leaders in filing a lawsuit to stop ballot proposals that would radically change the cityโs land use process and cut local voices out of the equation.
The Charter Revision Commission pushed these proposals forward without conducting the legally required environmental review, ignoring the impact these sweeping changes would have on our neighborhoods.
New Yorkers deserve a fair, transparent, and lawful process, not backroom shortcuts that silence communities.
Earlier this week, I voted AGAINST @NYCMayor's veto of a bill regarding vendor enforcement.
The mayor's veto was little more than political theater, and using the power of the office for theatrics is something I am very much opposed to. If the mayor really cared about using his mayoral power to benefit the people of this city, he would have used it to help get our unvaccinated workers back on the job. He would have used it to mitigate the impact of the migrant crisis when our city was being unsustainably swamped.
He could have used it in so many ways over the past three and a half years, but he didn't.
Now that it is an election year, however, he decides to pretend he is doing something? LAUGHABLE.

This bill increases the fines levied on vendors who continually vend without a license, issuing a penalty of more than $250 per day that they sell illegally - more than double what was previously allowed.
It allows NYPD and DSNY officers to confiscate goods from illegal vendors.
The prior criminal summonses issued did little to nothing to stem the vending issue. Often, these things were tossed out in court, and those who refuted the law likely wouldn't bother showing up to court in the first place.
Seizing property on the spot, however, ensures that vendors are penalized immediately.
If the mayor wanted to do something, he can now remove the vendors on the spot, which is exactly what this legislation allows.
He's had the tool of criminal summonses for years and how has that worked out? Change is needed and this is the change that will make an impact.

As many of you know, my legislation created the Office of Marine Debris Removal last year, and I am proud to state that operations are off the ground and in full swing. Just recently, the office removed an abandoned vessel that had been floating in Shellbank Basin (the canal in Howard Beach) for quite some time!
Thank you, Office of Marine Debris Removal!! Keep up the great work, and thank you for cleaning up our waters
Too many politicians are quick to say, โThatโs not my problemโ when it comes to city vs. state issues. If itโs a problem for our constituents, though, then it is our problem. Read my Op-Ed in this weekโs @TheRockawayWave, and let me know what you think!

According to @NYCMayor, it is "irresponsible" to provide free bins for hardworking New Yorkers after he mandated that every 1 to 9 unit residence in the city must have one.
Now he's trying to spin this like it's the Councilโs fault. We did our part. We passed the legislation, and his budget was supposed to fund this program. This is completely unacceptable, and yet another example of this Mayor spitting in the face of middle and working class New Yorkers. Shame on you, Mayor Adams. The people of this city deserve better than this.
The @FDNY is facing a facilities crisis that is impacting everything they do, from fire prevention to inspections to training, and we need a significant capital infusion to fix it. Fortunately, there is still time to fix things and get that much needed capital into the FY26 budget before Monday, @NYCMayor. Let's make sure that New York's Bravest get the resources they need, so they can continue protecting the people of this city.
The deplorable conditions of these firehouses are unacceptable, and our heroes deserve so much better.
