"If the art of war were nothing but the art of avoiding risks, glory would become the prey of mediocre minds... I have made all the calculations; fate will do the rest."
— Napoleon, statement at the beginning of the 1813 campaign
"No matter how isolated you are and how lonely you feel, if you do your work truly and conscientiously, unknown allies will come and seek you."
- Carl Jung
Jony Ive on what Steve Jobs taught him about focus:
“This sounds really simplistic but it still shocks me how few people actually practice this.
It’s a struggle to practice this.
Steve was the most remarkably focused person I ever met in my life.
Focus is not something you aspire to.
You don’t decide on Monday “I’m going to be focused.”
It’s an every minute “Why are we talking about that?”
*This* is what we are working on.
You can achieve so much when you truly focus.
One of the things Steve would say because he was worried I wasn’t focused — he would say how many things have you said no to?
I would tell him I said no to this. And I said no to that.
But he knew I wasn’t interested in doing those things.
There was no *sacrifice* in saying no.
What focus means is saying no to something that with every bone in your body you think is a phenomenal idea, you wake up thinking about it, but you say no to it because you are focusing on something else.
You can achieve so much when you truly focus.”
🚨 BREAKING: Erika Kirk forgives the killer of Charlie Kirk, Tyler Robinson.
"Father, forgive them, for they not know what they do."
"That young man. I forgive him."
If this doesn't give somebody chills, I don't know what will.
R.I.P. Charlie Kirk
I didn't know Charlie personally. But he did send me a kind message last year. "I love all people" is what he said. If that is any indication of who the man was, then this country has lost someone special today.
Partisan politics did not stand in the way of him paying me a compliment, and it should not stand in the way of mourning him either.
We cannot become a society where expressing political views, even controversial ones, leads to violence. Whatever you think of his politics, Charlie was a decent man, a patriot, and a brave defender of his values. My heart goes out to his wife and his kids.
Kobe on mastering the basics:
“Kobe was going through an intense warm up before his scheduled workout started with his trainer.
I sat down to watch.
For the first 45 minutes I was actually shocked.
For the first 45 minutes I watched the best player in the world do the most basic footwork and offensive moves.
Kobe was doing stuff that I had routinely taught to middle school aged players
This is Kobe Bryant we're talking about.
This is the Black Mamba.
He was doing everything at an unparalleled level of effort with unparalleled focus, but the actual stuff he was doing was very, very basic.
Later that day at camp I went up to him and said:
“Kobe, I don't understand. You're the best player in the world. Why are you doing such basic drills?”
He said:
“Why do you think I'm the best player in the world? Because I never get bored with the basics. I *never* get bored with the basics.”
Just because something is basic doesn't mean that it's easy.
If it was easy, everyone else would be doing it.
So the key to us improving our performance in any area of our life is identifying what those basics are, what those fundamentals are, and being relentlessly committed to performing them with consistency.
And that's hard because the basics are usually boring.
They're mundane.
They’re monotonous.
We all want to chase what's flashy and what's sexy, but the basics is where the gold is.
The highest performers I've ever been around —in basketball or business— have found a way to fall in love with the basics and make them a part of their daily routine.
@Vivek4real_@grok how would trillions entering the market affect the price of bitcoin. If you were to create a bullish and bearish prediction, make a chart showing this.
Twelve days ago, I had dinner with President Trump, a dinner that my friend @KidRock set up because we share the belief that there has to be something better than hurling insults from 3000 miles away.
