@psyc220 #CD7 My goal for my future is to become a crime scene investigator. This is a very male-dominant field, and they often believe that women are incapable of doing a competent job, and even discourage women in the field. This severely contributes to the systemic oppression
@SarahCaufield @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD7 it really seems like you've put a lot of thought into your answer! You brought up some really great points, and I think you will do a really great job helping these kids out!
@DrewFromPsyc220 @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD7 this is such a good example and something that I think everyone our age is very aware of. It is nice that there are guys out there looking out for us girls!
@psyc220 #CD7 of women in police work which contributes to the stigma that women are not competent police officers and investigators. The actions I am planning on taking to lessen this stigma when I achieve this goal is to support the other women in my field and try to help and
@sydpsyc @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD6 Yeah I think so too! it's a bummer because religion really is a wonderful thing, yet sometimes just is not as accepting as I personally believe it should be (or claims to be).
@psyc220 #CD6 the intersectionality between religion and sexuality is something that should be discussed, specifically the challenges that it can create amongst families. Many people are not accepted by their Catholic families due to their identity with the LGBTQ+ community
@ChloeSwan17 @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD6 race and mental illness is a really good example of intersectionality, and is especially relevant today. if we consider that minorities typically have lower SES, it is more difficult to obtain good mental health care
@emmayowelll @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD6 this is a really good example of intersectionality that really needs to be discussed. I liked how you used the term luxury
@psyc220 #CD5a there are a lot of obstacles for people with disabilities at all universities. for instance, the elevator in one of my class buildings was broken for about a week, which means whoever could not use the stairs was out of luck to get to class!
@sdulaney08 @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD5b I absolutely agree with you. I always hated the saying "if he can do it so can you" to be highly offensive, and this is what this picture says to me. a disabled person should not be used as encouragement to the temporarily abled bodied.
@DrewFromPsyc220 @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD5a I said this as well about the public transportation! It is way too difficult to get people with disabilities on and off the bus, if at all.
@psyc220 #CD5b this is example of "inspiration porn" because it encourages someone with disabilities that they can dream big too, but in a way also labels people with disabilities as "crazy" for having big dreams too.
@emmayowelll#CD4 @psyc220 Yeah! I think it's a good point that you say equality rather than domination. Feminism is about being equal, not about wanting to be above men, which I feel is a point that people often lose.
@ShaiWoodfaulk @psyc220 #CD4 @psyc220 bringing intersectionality into this discussion is genius! I also think gender roles are toxic and create unnecessary expectations for everyone involved.
#CD4 @psyc220 Anyways, gender roles and gender based oppression touch everyone bc everyone identifies somehow, and there are certain expectations to meet, regardless if you are a cis white male or a transexual person of color. These expectations are toxic and need to be lessened.
#CD4 @psyc220 I believe gender roles are toxic for everyone, no matter their identity. Everyone who experiences discrimination based on their gender identity or sexual orientation should have a sense of solidarity in battling this oppression. It is like that saying:
#CD4 @psyc220 the enemy of my enemy is a friend. If you are fighting the same opponent, join together for a more effective result. A gay man I worked with did not support transexual people. I was confused, asking, "wait, don't you guys kind of play for the same team?"
