@JaclynPSYC220 @psyc220 I like your input on this. I think stay at home moms get a bad rap. They are working full time with no time off. It is a privilege to be able to stay home. I think it is important that kids learn that it is a choice a mom can, but doesn't have to make.
@jesszoggpsych @psyc220 Thoughts of oppression are taught either by parents or society. I think it is important for parents to have discussions with kids once they understand differences so the kid can then learn what toxic behaviors and attitudes are towards minority groups.
what they are feeling and how to healthy express emotions versus repressing or projecting. Other tools like teaching the child to ask for help when they need it or to openly share their emotions with someone they trust, even if it is not a parent.
@psyc220 #CD7 I eventually would like to have a family. That being said, I think parents play a big role in what a child's mental health is and what habits and coping skills they learn. Parents may shove children's emotions and feelings aside. This teaches to kids...
not learn how to feel or cope healthily. This causes a pattern that gets passed down to the next generation contributing to more unhealthy mental habits and possibly mental illness. In order to break a cycle like this it is important that a parent helps a child recognize...
@psyc220 #CD6 socioeconomic status and mental health are something America is not doing well on aiding those in need. The lower someone's SES is the more likely they are to have mental health issues because of lack of affordable counseling and the stress of the struggles being...
@hflavinpsyc220 @psyc220 It is really sad how a religion can cause so much pain and suffering for those who do not fit, or care to fit what the religion wants.
@caralinepsych @psyc220 I agree that lower SES is already a huge barrier to get in to college, let alone once someone is in and having to deal with the barriers within college regarding their disability.
@esullivan106@carolineglovis1 @psyc220 I'm in ASL club and it is really weird to see JMU not providing good education on Deaf culture and ASL in the one class they offer, let alone not counting it as a language.
@psyc220 #CD5b Voting is an important way that policies for people with disabilities can change. Certain candidates may help provide more accessibility in communities, like providing more funding to make building accessible.

In Gabbin Hall specifically, there is a sign that says the closest accessible bathroom is in Wilson. This is more than an inconvenience to someone in a wheelchair, or in need of an accessible bathroom.
@samipsych @psyc220 Toxic masculinity comes from gender roles. Women have a more external societal struggle while men have a more internal struggle, like being allowed to cry without seeming "weak".
@emmayowelll @psyc220 I'm glad you talk about feminism being the fight for equality among all genders because I think a lot of people lose that meaning when they discuss these topics.
Gender oppression affects everyone because it affects the expected roles of gender. If women are expected to be at the house then men are expected to be working. People should be able to act freely regardless of gender. There should be no cookie cutter role for anyone.
@psyc220 #CD4 A bond between all who are oppressed on gender/sexual orientation should happen because getting rid of expectations and "norms" in those categories should be the goal so people can freely express and do what they want without judgment.
@sdulaney08 @TheBushCenter@EconGrowth @psyc220 People who fear immigrants taking jobs is invalid as we can see our unemployment rate during this pandemic beside the people who are unemployed but not looking for employment. We need workers of all kinds in America, and allowing immigrants to work has no direct negative affect.
