The Dutch government is running TV ads asking citizens to limit their electricity usage between 4pm and 9pm because the grid might collapse.
This is what happens when ideology replaces engineering. The Netherlands tore down its stable, gas-based system and replaced it with intermittent wind and solar that surge and fade with the weather.
They provide no inertia, no stored energy and no steady baseline. And modern grids can't cope. Lines are overloaded. Companies can't connect. Homes and EV charges are being turned away. And operators are even shutting down wind farms to avoid surging blackouts.
The cost to the Dutch economy is estimated to be 35 billion euros a year. And growing.
The promise was clean, abundant power. The reality? One of Europe's richest nations is now effectively rationing electricity.

Electrostate is the adult's version of 'food comes from apps'.
What's conveniently forgotten is that electricity forms less than a fifth of total energy usage.
According to Chinese government's own data, coal makes up 58% of China's primary energy consumption, followed by 20% oil and 10% natural gas.
While the rest 12% is pencilled under Nuclear + Renewables.
Close to 8% of this is Nuclear + Big Hydro.
Only 4% is what's contributed through Solar Panels & Wind Turbines.
China as a model example of an 'Electrostate powered by RE' is not even academically convincing.
And Nopes, that's not going to change in any meaningful form as proportion of total energy consumption for many decades to come.
Industrial heat, high voltage process electricity, high temp/pressure hitting rotary/reciprocating mass powers everything from jet engines, diesel trucks to machines which make fertilizer for your food are all derived from fossil fuels.
These are all the primary building blocks on which the human civilisation thrives.
Everything that we know and understand as wealth, earn money for and want more of it for our children is a fabric that's intricately woven with Fossil Fuels.
We want way more production of hydrocarbons not less.

Even this 4% being Solar & Wind is a contested figure. China does have an active Geothermal program.
Besides that the 4% is counted as an aggregate of all electrical dumps on Grid, not in terms of dispatchable electricity.
So Solar & Wind being 20% of Chinese electricity and 4% of primary energy sounds good on paper but is highly inflated in context of usable energy.
I am increasingly convinced that this is the future state we need to build for:
Whichever country becomes the first “electrostate” will be the country that has the requisite input abundance necessary for robotics, AGI, manufacturing and everything in between.
This means doubling down on ALL forms of energy production TODAY. Solar, wind, Nat gas, coal, nuclear. Anything that slows us down will hamper our ability to win.
Meanwhile, and as usual, China is methodically marching along and setting itself up to win because it can see the forest from the trees.

The aluminum-oxygen bond is one of the strongest in industrial chemistry. A single smelter runs 24 hours a day for years between shutdowns. There are over 240 aluminum smelters worldwide. Together they consume 3.5% of global electricity each year. A typical electric vehicle contains 200 to 300 kg of aluminum. Aircraft fuselages, transmission lines, and server racks all depend on this process. China produces 60% of global supply. The US made 33% of the world's aluminum in 1980. Today it makes less than 1%.
