When Perry was just starting I was approached by a VC specialized in dev tools. However, talking to them I felt like our objectives were off.

I get that VCs want to have a return and make money, I do too. But it was very clearly said "We don't care about game engines and other use-cases"

I was not looking for VC funding (still not) at that point and they reached out to me but it struck a nerve: A compiler or dev tool that is open source should not be bound to financial interests like that.

I want Perry to enable whole new types of apps with TypeScript (like games), I want it to reshape how we think about TypeScript. VCs and funding seem to stand in the way of that. So I decided not to pursue any VC funding.

And looking at all the crazy stuff happening with VC funded open source projects I feel confirmed in that decision on a daily basis.
