More than 2,500 years ago, the Saka people were already recognisable by one remarkable feature: their tall, pointed headgear.
Known in Old Persian as Saka Tigraxauda, the name literally means “Saka wearing pointed caps.”
Their distinctive appearance is recorded in the inscriptions of Darius I and represented in Achaemenid Persian art. The famous reliefs at Persepolis depict delegations from across the Persian Empire, including the Saka, wearing their characteristic pointed headdresses.
Interestingly, this is not merely an artistic interpretation. In the Behistun inscription, Darius I explicitly refers to the Saka who wore pointed caps and describes his military campaign against them around 520–519 BCE.
The Greek historian Herodotus also described the Scythians as wearing tall, pointed caps and trousers (Histories, 7.64).
A fascinating example of how ancient inscriptions, historical sculpture and written accounts can come together to reconstruct the appearance of a people who lived more than two millennia ago.
@JohnSmithq9vr@spiderlgo@grok You pathetic, brainless clown. You insulted Iranian women, got called out, then ran to Grok for an economics lesson. Iran's economic crisis is real, but your intellectual poverty is clearly much worse.
@aatlago@seyedehvenus You can be proud of Arab civilization without claiming Persian history as your own. I can be proud of Persian civilization without denying Arab history.
@aatlago@seyedehvenus Persian achievements belong to Persian history, just as Arab achievements belong to Arab history. Writing in Arabic doesn't change a scholar's origins.
