3,800+ short .si names were registered in the last 7 days.
We made a 40-second film about finding the ones that are still free.
Hivex launches on Product Hunt at midnight PT. What name would you check first?

the .si rush, two weeks in 📉
oct 5: 2,169 .si names we'd tracked as free got registered in one day
oct 12 to 18: 380 to 665 a day
3,727 that week vs 5,579 in oct 1 to 7. in the first wave half went within 42 hours, and 57% were 3 or 4 letters bought in bulk.
about 630k .si still unregistered. chart + daily csv: https://t.co/PtM5mqjlL8

@dnx the .si version ran on fast forward this month. of the names we saw get hand regged oct 1 to 7, 239 were already parked for sale at afternic or sedo that same week
@AbsalomeSama ah we don't own any of these, we just check them. someone registered the .app about 2 hours after this reply, sadly. FM Ledger and FM Dossier still have the .com free as of right now, worth grabbing quick if you like one
Why is everyone buying .si domains?
Short version: .si reads as "Super Intelligence", and it's about $12 a year. Registrations went from under 2,000 in all of August to 20,276 in one day on Oct 5.

@domainsea fwiw the supply side is cooling. 3,727 of the short .si names we track got registered this past week, vs 5,579 in the first week of oct. fewer fresh hand regs hitting the market
@NZDomainer not totally tapped out yet. 665 short .si names we'd tracked as free got registered yesterday (utc), so people are still finding stuff. way down from 2,169 on oct 5 though
OpenAI, Meta and Google all applied for the same new domain ending: .agent
13 applications for one ending, the most in ICANN's new round. None of it is live yet though. 70 seconds on what it means for your next name:

@mikeinsoftware nice, $990 on a hand reg is a great start. building a couple out is smart too, a live product sells a name way better than a parked page
Your name's taken on .com. And .ai, .io, .app, .dev...
.si reads as super intelligence, and 40,000+ short .si names are still confirmed free.

@Domainput renewals are the real test for sure. the rush is already cooling on short names tho, we count ~4,400 registered in the last 7 days, down from ~7,400 a few days ago
@IgorGabrielan feels more like .si becomes the add-on than the replacement. celeste is the pattern: the .ai sold for $95k, the .si for $8,595, both redirect to the same company. buyers still treat .ai as the main one
@long_equity verisign's the sneaky one on that list. .com wholesale goes $10.26 to $10.97 on nov 1, the max 7% bump their contract allows, and you can't exactly switch registries
Heads up if you own .com names: the price goes up Nov 1. Wholesale $10.26 → $10.97 a year, the most Verisign's contract allows.
You can still renew the ones you're sure about at today's price, up to 10 years out.

@spaceship that 2.3% holding almost half of all .si is the wild stat here. fwiw the pace is cooling on the short ones we track: 4,102 registered by others in the last 7 days, down from 7,421 on oct 10
Naming a startup gets way easier with a simple order:
a plain word, a short partner, the radio test, a live check, then register.

Some of the best-known short links on the web let the ending finish the word. That trick is a domain hack.
The clever .si spellings went first. The kind that still works: an ending that carries the meaning.

@Met4CastUK Three that fit "nice charts anyone can read": Skyread, Chartsky, Isobars. The .com is taken for all three, but the .app is free for each right now (checked live a minute ago). Skyread would be my pick: it says what the app does.
