NO INFORMATION SHARING WITH AUTHORITARIANS.
@MPIainDS has tabled an amendment to the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill to stop 🇨🇳 and other authoritarian regimes from abusing information sharing agreements.
The amendment would prevent 🇬🇧 from sharing private information with overseas authorities in jurisdictions where the right to a fair trial cannot be guaranteed, including China and #HongKong.
We need your support! Urge your MP to support the amendment with our template letter: https://t.co/ZnhZ6gDuaO
Ahead of @POTUS’ visit to 🇨🇳 this week, Hong Kong Watch led a cohort of 24 civil society organisations to urge the President to press Xi on three points:
🔹 Release #FreeJimmyLai and political prisoners
🔹 Withdraw bounties on activists abroad
🔹 No easing of #HongKong sanctions

(6/6) The UK promised that Hong Kong ‘will never have to walk alone’. Long, punitive settlement routes undermine that promise.
📅 The government consultation closes on 12 Feb.

🚨 We have submitted formal written evidence to Parliament regarding the Government's 'Routes to Settlement' inquiry.
Our findings are clear: Proposed "Earned Settlement" rules risk trapping BN(O) families and Hong Kong refugees in decades of instability. 🧵(1/6)
(5/6) We are calling on the Government to:
1️⃣ Exempt BN(O) holders & dependents from minimum income requirements
2️⃣ Recognize care work & volunteering as ‘contribution’
3️⃣ Maintain the B1 English standard
4️⃣ Retain a 5-year route for HK refugees, regardless of entry method.

🚨 Following Jimmy Lai’s conviction for three national security charges today, Hong Kong Wach and 32 other civil society organisations have written to @Keir_Starmer, urging @GOVUK to press 🇨🇳 to #FreeJimmyLai – read the letter below👇

3. Hong Kong refugees and young activists without BN(O) status could face 20–40 years before settlement. These are genuine political exiles. The UK’s responsibility extends to all Hongkongers. Anyone affected should contact Hong Kong Aid for free, confidential advice. (4/4)
🧵The @hkaiduk team notes today’s announcement by @ukhomeoffice on settlement changes for BN(O) holders. While we recognise the protection of the 5-year route, we also have serious concerns that must be addressed.
Full statement in the press release attached below. (1/4)
2. A sudden jump from B1 to B2 English in 2026 could unfairly block long-term BN(O) residents who’ve lived, worked and raised families here without adequate notice to prepare. (3/4)
Thanks to the work of @HelenaKennedyKC, @DavidAltonHL and team at @ipacglobal@hk_watch — the amendment was finally introduced last night at Westminster!
This Borders Bill amendment is paramount for BN(O) visa pathway to secure a firm 5+1 to settlement and citizenship.
🧵 #NEW 🇬🇧 Co-Chair @HelenaKennedyKC introduces @DavidAltonHL’s Borders Bill amendment to:
👉 Enshrine the BN(O) visa route in law.
👉 Guarantee the 5+1 pathway to settlement and citizenship.
This is something that is unforgivable and purely evil. When reintroducing the extradition cooperation, have you even thought of how many Hong Kong exiles in this country live in fear of transnational repression every day?
