@AriaImagined Great advice. Requiring data flow diagrams, data flow audits and threat modeling early in the design phase is critical. Along with checkpoint GRC reviews during the SDLC. Lastly, providing company-wide comprehensive training on data processor/controller and GDPR, ect can help.

I appreciate the healthy tension between the imaginative designer and the pragmatism of the engineer. A designer should be aware of the medium they are operating in. Similar to an architect having a deep understanding of building materials. I believe combining these distinct roles into a hybrid may lead to a product that is not successful in either.

@shreyas I would recommend to narrow the scope to a high performance, well regraded, psychologically safe, and healthy team. Take a moment to define what team attributes and environment/culture in which you thrive. Also, determine what you want to learn and what you can provide.

@Carnage4Life This is a strong signal that there are leadership dysfunctions in one/many of the following areas: product strategy, research, comms, org design, ux, planning and/or execution, ect... Broken scenarios, over capacity, siloed teams are symptoms of these dysfunctions.

@darasoba Great post. I started using the term “deceptive pattern” to described this phenomenon. The word “dark” can be misunderstood and has historical biases. Similar to “blacklist/whitelist” I use blocked list/allowed list or exclude/allow.

@DellAnnaLuca @thiagoghisi You should also do an assessment to determine whether the root cause is you or a dysfunctional team. If you believe it’s the team validate this assumption with a trusted co-worker(s) and look for other signs/examples of dysfunction. Read the 5 dysfunctions of a team.
