Georgian is a unique foundation of 🇬🇪’s identity and an integral part of Europe’s cultural diversity
On 14 April,🇪🇺 joins the celebration of the Georgian Language Day, which has carried the country’s culture, history, and memory through centuries.
Happy Georgian Language Day!
Amid Russia’s attacks on Ukraine's energy system, 17 countries and the EU have sent us vital energy support. Each contribution is a lifeline for Ukrainians communities, bringing warmth and electricity when it’s needed most.
This January, Ukraine has received significant deliveries of generators, industrial boilers, uninterruptible power supplies, and other critical energy equipment. These resources are helping maintain heating and other essential services during peak winter demand and ongoing Russian attacks on our energy infrastructure.
We are deeply grateful to all the governments and organisations who have stepped up to support Ukraine. Thank you to all the countries and the EU that have joined these efforts!
Justice must prevail. #Ukraine will not stand alone.
34 countries + EU signed a new convention to launch the International Claims Commission under the Council of Europe.
It will assess claims & compensation for damage caused by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
Honoured to address the @Coe DipConf in support of establishing the Int #Claims Commission for 🇺🇦. The tragic reality unfolding in the heart of Europe requires greater efforts to restore #peace in the region. 🇬🇪 understands better than most how vital it is to uphold int. norms.

The UN General Assembly has adopted an important initiative of Ukraine—the draft resolution on the Chornobyl disaster.
I emphasize that the resolution uses the right spelling — Chornobyl (because this city is located in Ukraine), not the Russian-style “Chernobyl,” as it had been used in UN documents for many years.
The document’s adoption not only introduces the correct Ukrainian transliteration across the UN dossier but also draws attention to the aggressor’s crimes against the Ukrainian people and threats to global nuclear security.
We thank all 97 Member States for their support.
Unfortunately, Russia once again tried to use its satellite, Belarus, to hide its crimes and promote an alternative text omitting any reference to its attacks on the Chornobyl facilities.
I thank all those who did not stand aside and refused to support the Belarusian draft.

🗓️ 33 years ago today, the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) was adopted by the Conference on Disarmament, marking the culmination of nearly a century of dedicated disarmament efforts.
Past efforts
🔙 The earliest initiatives to prohibit the use of poisonous weapons were the St. Petersburg Declaration in 1868 and The Hague Declaration in 1899. Yet, these efforts fell short, and chemical weapons were used on a massive scale during the First World War. That devastating experience led to adoption of the Geneva Protocol in 1925.
Building on the Geneva Protocol
⚠️ The Geneva Protocol prohibited the use of chemical weapons, but did not prohibit their production, development, or stockpiling. Unfortunately countries built up vast quantities of chemical weapons, and these weapons continued to be used in later conflicts.
Turning point
📄 After 12 years of negotiations, the CWC was adopted by the Conference on Disarmament in 1992. The CWC sets out the obligations of countries to ensure that chemical weapons are eliminated and never re-emerge. The Convention is comprehensive and non-discriminatory, prohibiting the development, production, stockpiling, transfer, and use of chemical weapons by States Parties, under conditions of strict international verification.

On 23 August 1989, two million Latvians 🇱🇻, Estonians 🇪🇪 & Lithuanians 🇱🇹 expressed their shared will to regain independence and self-determination, & to return to a democratic world.
Shoulder to shoulder, the three nations joined hands in a human chain – the #BalticWay – demanding that the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact be declared null & void & reminding the world of the crimes committed by totalitarian regimes.
Today, the Baltic states remain united by shared values & common goals – democracy, security, prosperity & unwavering support to Ukraine 🇺🇦 in its fight for freedom.

@EUinGeorgia 🇬🇪 EU membership would let Georgian culture stand equally beside others - with the same opportunities for our artists to thrive, create, and earn, after decades of being held back behind the Iron Curtain 🚫
17 years since Russia’s invasion of Georgia. No real progress on de-occupation. No security guarantees. The West remains indecisive. Yes, the primary responsibility is ours - but we need real help, not polite statements and political riff-raff. #August2008#StandWithGeorgia
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of 🇮🇳 #India, and to the families of all victims - Indian and foreign nationals - who tragically lost their lives in the #Ahmedabad plane crash. Our thoughts are with you in this difficult time. @MEAIndia
Guess who made this statement? 👇
“Unprovoked military strikes on sovereign UN member state, its citizens, sleeping peaceful cities, and nuclear-energy infrastructure are categorically unacceptable.”
Its Russia’s MFA - the same regime that bombs Ukrainian cities almost daily ❌
