"We take the Private loans, which yield more because of an illiquidity premium, and then make them liquid. It's called tradeable Private Credit, and its awesome"
Apollo has traded more than $35bn of private credit since it began making markets in the asset class, co-head of corporate credit John Cortese said on Bloomberg Television.
The desk has traded about 500 assets with 160 counterparties. Roughly a third of the volume involved loans Apollo did not originate.
In its early days the desk had traded about $2bn of Apollo's own originations with around 60 active clients. The firm has since added daily NAV pricing and ICE security identifiers, and lined up JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs and three other banks as broker-dealers.
Apollo Debt Solutions BDC, with about $26bn of assets, capped withdrawals at 5% for a third straight quarter last month after 14.7% of shares sought to exit.
My salary is positive carry.
It pays for my negative-carry positions:
projects, learning, long-dated bets.
They bleed a little every month, but they have a potentially nonlinear payoff.
A job doesn't kill your dreams. It funds the ability to stay convex.
Excited to announce Options 101!
It's a site that provides free, no-ads, no-shill education on financial options (calls + puts).
The first course is one I'm now teaching this fall at Charles University in Prague. Lecture notes, videos, assignments.

NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.
Olah’s team then privately lobbied the pope’s advisers “to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.” Pope Leo XIV held firm.
For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing. https://t.co/iG3Bnlzt2J
