Thank you @TammyTyrrell_ for your common sense, compassion & pragmatism re vaping. No one has as yet been able to explain why low risk vapes are severely restricted in Australia while deadly cigarettes are readily available. Completely nuts @SenatorJordon@AdamBandt@LivePippas
Simon, that would be only a relevent statement if vapes were tobacco products, but they are not!
Tarring vapes with the same cancer causing tar found in combustible tobacco only makes one look uneducated and silly!
"There is no good evidence that vapes cause cancer" said the CEO of the Cancer council yesterday!
Is she lying?
Highly recommend reading @Clive_Bates analysis here. Very important. Hard to believe Alice in Wonderland thinking of tobacco control survived this long
@cdoug@FDATobacco Disposables ARE now the most "popular" vapes with US teen vapers. The 2023 NYTS shows:
7.7% use nicotine vapes “at least once in the past month”
35% use them frequently, so may routinely buy products
= 2.7%
60.7% of THOSE use disposables = 1.6% of teens
@swimdaily @ColinMendelsohn Response from my nephew in OZ:. “My GP declined my request for a vape prescription stating that she believes they are as bad as tobacco. So I buy black market vapes still. Vapes have helped me - last tobacco cig was August 2022. We could use the NZ model here definitely 💯
Deeply upsetting that former long-standing public health colleagues now happily engage in wholesale sophistry & any unscrupulous tactic they think might work to attack tobacco harm reduction

@SeedTheChangeNZ@top_nz But why would you want to align to a policy that slows down the rate of cigarette smoking and makes it harder for cigarette smokers (mostly poor already) to access cheaper, safer alternatives?! I just don’t get it!
Instead, RAISE LEGAL AGE TO 21 AND ENFORCE CURRENT LEGISLATION!
Not quite enough! a modest addition to current tobacco control measures. #Vaping as an alternative way of accessing nicotine, works too! One third decline in smoking in NZ in past 2 years suggests Smokefree 2025 goal will be reached.@ASHNZ2025 a https://t.co/73PKwfHVY3
