@deepakshenoy Hi Deepak, so a group of friends can get together to create a company that invests in stocks and even if more than 50% of their income will be from those activities, they don’t need to register as an NBFC? no public interface and selling anything outside applied
Enough is enough! A few days ago about how senior citizenwhatsapp was hacked use to spam apk file by scammers my and now my feed is a cesspool of relentless fraud: bogus traffic challan links, deceitful courier scams, insidious KYC traps, "bank account blocked" panic ploys, WhatsApp job cons, fake government phishing sites, "double your money" Ponzi schemes, and a barrage of scam ads peddling worthless junk . This isn't some minor annoyance it's a rampant, unchecked digital crime pandemic ravaging social media and messaging apps with impunity!Tens of millions of Indians are preyed upon daily, but our so called authorities sit idle with their laughably feeble, knee jerk responses, while these platforms shamelessly profit from hosting scam ads. All the hollow hype about Digital India? Utter bullshit basic safeguards against this brazen fraud are nonexistent!Wake up, you incompetent leaders! Treat this as the national consumer-protection and cyber-security catastrophe it is, and crush it now: ruthless enforcement, ironclad platform accountability, and crippling penalties for every enabler complicit in this nightmare! @narendramodi@HMOIndia@GoI_MeitY@CyberDost@RBI@IndianCERT

This needs to be said: We are at Jim Corbett and apparently there is no restriction on loud music till 10:30pm in the night. The roads are full of cars speeding around, at least 30 jeeps plying in one area of the forest, you can see brunt land on both sides and massive tree felling.
So guilty of attending a family wedding here, I cannot say. There’s one I skipped because I didn’t want to be a party to destroying the habitat of animals. But why is Uttarakhand government allowing weddings in a forest reserve? I know my tweet will have zero reaction but

Why India’s Smog Isn’t “Different” – It’s Just Being Watched 🧵
1/ People see India’s $3k GDP/capita + bad air and scream “This development model is broken!”
Europe and China at the same stage had pitch-black skies. No social media meant no viral outrage. Same pain, less noise.
2/ Europe’s Industrial Revolution: Manchester and Birmingham choked in coal smog that blocked the sun for days. The Thames was an open sewer. London’s 1952 “pea souper” fog killed 12,000. No Twitter, so people called it “just progress.”
3/ China in the 2000s ($3k–$5k/capita): Beijing’s AQI hit 500–1000+ routinely—deadly levels. Factories and coal created “cancer villages.” By 2013, the government admitted pollution caused 1.6 million premature deaths yearly. Weibo existed, but tight control muted global freakouts.
4/ India today (~$2.8k/capita): Delhi’s AQI often spikes to 300–500—very poor to severe. It’s bad, no question. But it’s less deadly per capita than China’s peak, with lower coal and steel intensity than China in 2005. Still sucks, but not a uniquely “broken” path.
5/ The real difference? No Instagram Reels in 1850 Manchester. No uncensored TikTok in 2005 Shenzhen. India’s pollution is live-streamed globally, so it feels like an “exceptional crisis.” Truth: it’s standard messy industrialisation.
6/ Growth fixes it eventually. China cut AQI 40%+ after its 2013 War on Pollution. Europe cleaned up post-1950s with Clean Air Acts and tech. India will follow: urbanisation leads to wealth, enforcement, and cleaner skies. Same arc.
7/ Don’t judge India by 2025 AQI tweets. Judge by the full cycle. A $4 trillion economy becoming $10 trillion means cleaner air ahead—plus the same complaints when the next $3k/capita country rises.
Progress is ugly. Social media just makes it louder.
BREAKING: The US just offered India seized Venezuelan oil to replace Russian crude.
This is being reported as “pressure on India.”
It’s the opposite.
It’s America joining the auction.
January 19: UAE locks in $3 billion LNG deal with India.
January 27: EU finalizes trade agreement with India.
January 30: US pitches Venezuelan crude to India.
Three superpowers. Eleven days. All competing to be India’s energy supplier.
India’s Russian imports: dropping from 1.2 million barrels/day to 500,000.
Not because India is “complying.”
Because India just got better offers.
OPEC share: 11-month high.
US crude: up from 2% to 7% of IOC basket.
Brazilian imports: increasing.
UAE LNG: locked for a decade.
Venezuelan option: now on the table.
When everyone wants to supply you, you don’t choose.
You take the best price from each.
The US thinks this is leverage.
India is running a procurement auction where America is one of five bidders.
That’s the 11-day pivot in one frame.
India went from “country to pressure” to “country to court” while Washington was still calculating tariffs.

This is the story of three deep tech founders from IIT Delhi.
𝗧𝗮𝗻𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗻𝗸𝗮𝗿. 𝗔𝗻𝘂𝗷 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗻𝘄𝗮𝗹. 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗵𝗹𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘁.
About seven years ago, when they walked into my office at IIT Delhi, they had very little to show. No product. No revenues. Just an obsession with drones. They were playing, experimenting, breaking and rebuilding drones as part of their undergraduate projects. What they had was conviction.
In 2019, I called them before Dussehra. Could we recreate the entire Ravan Dahan using drones? The idea was simple. As an IIT, demonstrate technology at scale using Ravan Dahan as a showcase.
Their response was honest. They were not ready. It needed serious money. But they were confident that if resources were made available, they could deliver.
We subsequently evaluated them for funding at IIT Delhi. They came in for a pitch. It was one of those rare pitches that is not about slides, but about belief. We decided to take a leap of faith and fund them as an equity investment. About ₹2.5 crore. At that time, they didn't have much to show. It was a big risk.
After the pitch, I learnt that Tanmay’s father had passed away that very morning. Yet he stayed back to present. He was very close to his father. That moment told me everything about commitment, and it stays with me.
The journey after that was not easy. There were challenges at every step. As an institution, until I was there, we never said no to anything they asked.
Then came their defining moment. #Republic Day 2022. Beating Retreat. A thousand drones lighting up the sky. The Hon’ble Prime Minister tweeted about it as a world record. That night, their trajectory changed forever.
@BotLabDynamics became a sensation.
Today, they are major players in drone-based entertainment and defence manufacturing. They have gone global, with a Dubai office opened last year. They are on their way to becoming a unicorn, perhaps a soonicorn already.
Yesterday, they invited me, Dr. Anil Wali to inaugurate their new 50,000 sq ft facility in Noida. Many who helped them in their journey at IIT Delhi were also present. Watching thier manufacturing plant come alive in Noida, it struck me how far a conviction can travel when it is backed by trust.
They will be the Flipkart of deep-tech startups from IIT Delhi. More importantly, their success will spawn hundreds, perhaps thousands, of new deep tech founders.
That is the real multiplication.
Having played a small part in their journey, I feel deeply happy.
𝗜𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽-𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽
PS: When my term as Director ended at IIT Delhi, they did a drone show as a farewell and recreated my picture in the sky. It was deeply touching. They later told me my moustache was particularly difficult for the drones to recreate. I told them I could have temporarily removed it, if that made life easier for their algorithms. 🥸

Now that SC has stayed UGC regulation, and there is a bit of breather here is what I want to say. 1990 was a year that changed my life forever. In August 1990, my mother and I fled Kashmir valley. We were the last Hindu family in our neighborhood to flee, because my mother kept hoping against hope that somebody would save us. Nobody did. Ultimately we decided to leave our home. Only home we had. A kind Sikh truck driver agreed to drive us till Jammu and then we were on our own. We sat huddled in the back of that truck too afraid to even weep. We had no belongings except few clothes in a bag and a bundle of papers my mother held close to her bosom in the entire journey. These were her certificates from school and college. She was hoping to find a job based on those certificates. I was too young to have any certificates yet. But she did and that was all we had. Her degrees. Somehow we managed to find roof on our heads in Faridabad, near Delhi. We thought this would at least be an end to some of our miseries.Lo and behold Mandal agitation started. This was a double whammy. Now we were suddenly ‘upper caste’ and for reason unknown to us, Govt of the time had turned against us. We were not privileged, we were not rich, we were so worn down by Islamists that we had no time to reflect on our so called ‘privilege’. But this moment produced a stunning epiphany. We had not been prosecuted in Kashmir valley for our caste. We had been ethnically cleansed because of our faith. It just did not make sense why would Hindus not unite against this existential threat. When Advani ji gave a call of Hindutva and asked everyone to rise above their caste, it made sense to me. In fact that is the only thing that made sense to me. Hindutva keeps Bharat together and Bharat is where Dharma thrives. I often remember that visual of my mother clasping her certificates in one hand and holding my head with her other hand. Many so called ‘privileged castes’ have only one thing to fall back upon. Education and hard work. That is why these UGC regulations were bad faith laws because it takes away freedom from students for whom education is the only passport to success. Regardless of which caste they belong to. Why create battlefields in the campuses? These students will anyway enter the works full of landmines when their education is over.
My humble appeal to the legislators who draft laws and to the Executive who implement laws is this - Don’t do anything that will create further divisions. And my humble appeal to protestors - Dharma is what keeps us together. Dharma is what gives us courage to fight. Dharma will protect us from our enemies. Stay together. Stay United.
Indian stock exchanges are closed today for Mumbai's municipal elections.
The fact that our exchanges, which have international linkages, are shut down for a local municipal election shows poor planning and a serious lack of appreciation for second-order effects.
As Munger said: "Show me the incentive, and I will show you the outcome."
The holiday exists because no one who matters has any incentive to oppose the market holiday.
It also tells you how far we have to go before global investors take us seriously.
Old timers got it right. And when you're poor, you don't have much choice. So our parents, their parents, did what they thought best back in the day.
Bought their house the hard way - slogging, saving, without home loan, borrowing from friends and family. Bought gold because gold is gold. Didn't understand stock market so stayed away. Bought an insurance policy because LIC is LIC and you get bonus.
Look what it got them.
Their kids got a home. That's the best security in a poor country. No home loan. They got the LIC policy. They got gold. All great products worth security and when you're poor, security means a lot.
Sure they missed the Infosys IPO but they also missed so many scams.
What did they do? They sent their kids to schools, colleges, and in a liberalised open India, these kids became VP, senior VP, in banks or IT firms and made more money than their parents and bought even bigger homes. And got very lucky with ESOPs. This is what education and economic reforms got for them.
Now their kids. Gen Z. With the security of parents who worked in MNCs, in the comfort of their 4BHK in Lower Parel. They write long posts on social media about how old India didn't have choice and invested in "garbage" like LIC policies, FD, gold, etc. Whereas the cool way is to log on to an app and invest in an index fund.
Sharam karo saalon. Your grandparents and your parents saw what the real India was. Have some respect.
For likes and follows you're ignoring and forgetting what India used to be and how prior generations gave their best and came out with results they're proud of.
Sharam karo.
Once upon a time there was a vulture cladded in a Versace shirt. Sabeer, since 1997 you’ve crash-landed head-first on your long string of vapourware start-ups, had a failed “new Hotmail” called Neo, and then some random crypto BS that you don’t even comprehend yourself.
Now let’s run through some numbers you conveniently ignored:
- 1991 India nominal GDP: $270 billion
- 2025 India nominal GDP: $4.13 trillion
That’s 15× growth in dollar terms, not PPP fairy dust.
- Stock market cap: $200B → $5 trillion (largest wealth creation in Indian history)
- 2013-14 India was the 11th largest global economy by nominal GDP;
- 2025 India stands tall as the 4th largest and the 3rd largest fully digitised world economy ; remains on track to be the 3rd largest in nominal GDP terms by 2028 or thereabouts. Jumped 7 places in mere a decade!
- Per capita income (nominal): $300 → $3,000+. 10× in one generation. And yes, that will go up further.
- Extreme poverty (World Bank $2.15/day): 55% in 1993 → under 10% now in 2025 notwithstanding the population rise!
- Life expectancy: 59 → 71
- Literacy: 52% → 80%
- Electrification: 50% of villages → almost 100%
- Highway network: 20,000 km → 160,000 km
Meanwhile, you couldn’t build a single successful company since 1997 in the easiest American tech market on Earth with infinite capital access, but you’re an expert on why India is “stuck”?
Spare us your American poolside demented and deluded lectures!

The recent clamour about getting on to the gold and silver bandwagon is a classic example of FOMO & Recency Bias. Any analysis to buy should account for these two.
I thought I lost my airpods on Air India Flight - AI 2773 and now I realize that @airindia STOLE it.
Initially I thought I misplaced it. Then quickly, I figured that I had dropped it - this was just around the time flight was taking off.
I sought help, which clearly was not coming my way. Find my device confirmed that airpods were around me but, aircraft is dense hence needed crew to support. I waited for landing, confirmed the live location. It was in the craft.
Waited for everyone to disembark so I can locate it. The live location was clearly indicating that it was in the craft - when it was just me and the crew.
I was assured that the cleaners will help find ...but, i was asked to step out ..and told perhaps it was in my bag. Which I proved that it wasnt- refer to second image.
Then i thought ok ...cleaners didnt care and it went away in trash. But, now after a few hours when I see - it is intact and in a shop. So, inspite of the fact that the staff saw me begging for 5 minutes to look around - the haste with which i was pushed out clearly shows this is a case of THEFT by staff.
Shame on You @airindia Never thought that ethics would be sold off so soon. @TataCompanies @Gustavbaldauf @GustavBaldauf @DebanganaChakrabarty @harishbhatt@AppleSupport@Apple is there anyway you can help.
