The ideal scenario would be a free market of global trade where any two consenting parties could come together and trade goods and services at agreed upon prices.

That is not the world we live in.

Countries around the globe have been levying tariffs against the United States, or creating subsidies for their domestic producers, which put America at a disadvantage on the world stage.

There is no such thing as a free market in trade anymore.

Tariffs are necessary to level the playing field and remind other countries that they need us more than we need them.

The ideal scenario is that foreign countries and the United States reach agreements to remove all tariffs from each other, along with no government subsidizing of industries.

Let's get back to free trade. But the path to that end result runs through the US implementation of tariffs.
