Deeply hurt and disappointed

A national symposium on “Ancient Heritage of Maharashtra: Ancient Jain Temples” was jointly organized by the Department of Philosophy and Jain Engineers Society under the chairmanship of the Hon. Vice-Chancellor Suresh Gosavi. Revered Digambar Jain saint was officially invited to deliver a spiritual discourse.

As per the schedule, Maharaj Shri was to begin a peaceful padayatra from HND Boarding at 3:30 PM and arrive at the university by 4:00 PM for the address. But at the last moment, permission was denied and entry was reportedly refused on the grounds that a Digambar monk could not enter the university in his traditional ascetic form.

This is not merely cancellation of a guest lecture — it is an insult to an ancient spiritual tradition, to Jain values, and to the dignity of a revered saint who lives a life of absolute non-violence, detachment, and compassion.

Digambar Jain monks have no anger, hatred, or ego. Maharaj Shri himself may remain unaffected by this incident, but as followers and citizens, we cannot remain silent when our faith and heritage are disrespected.

India is a land that speaks of diversity, tolerance, and respect for all traditions. If an invited Jain monk can be denied entry to a university because of his religious identity and ascetic tradition, it raises serious questions about inclusivity and constitutional respect for all faiths.

We strongly expect the Vice-Chancellor and university administration to express regret and issue a public clarification regarding this unfortunate incident.

Respect all faiths.
Respect ancient traditions.
Respect Jain saints.

●It is not merely a traffic incident
It is a direct assault on a peaceful spiritual tradition that walks the path of Tapasya. We demand an immediate, transparent, and strict investigation @SP_Rewa @Janardan_BJP
●The accused Rashid Ali shah must be prosecuted under the strongest applicable laws. Jain saints walk barefoot, harming no one, owning nothing, living only for spiritual upliftment of society.
●If even such ascetics are unsafe on Indian roads, then what message are we giving to the nation?
This growing recklessness and disregard toward Jain Sadhu is creating deep fear and anger within the Jain community. Such incidents leave a generational wound on our spiritual heritage.
We urge authorities to act immediately.

●This is the time when jains are being suppressed the most either by converting their religious temples or by forcefully encroaching it. Be it girnar, pavagadh, udaygiri Khandagiri, Mandargiri, Anjangiri & many many more.
●Today the issue is Bhojshala. Tomorrow it can be any of the above mentioned Jain heritage site.
Jains stayed silent for decades thinking “someone else will protect our history.” No one does. Infact our own jain is fighting against us today. Community that does not document, defend, and assert its own heritage slowly loses it — first legally, then culturally .
