That OSTP framework that only ever applied to federally funded researchers and providers of those researchers? That one that relied on voluntary paper compliance? Is that the OSTP framework you are talking about?
Do you mean the OSTP framework that Trump admin EO 14292 ordered revised or replaced within 90 days back in May 2025, which is now overdue by 10 months, casting everything into regulatory limbo? That one that lacked any legitimate enforcement mechanisms in the first place?...
@eryney_ok Iβm a virologist. Itβs a great idea! The thing is, we already do it. The OSTP framework has existed since 2023 and is continuously updated. It mandates that nucleic acid orders are screened and recorded. Every single major company follows these OSTP framework.
"When President Xi very elegantly referred to the United States as perhaps being a declining nation, he was referring to the tremendous damage we suffered during the four years of Sleepy Joe Biden... But now, the United States is the hottest Nation anywhere in the world" - President Donald J. Trump πΊπΈ
It's going to be increasingly critical in the months and years ahead for people to carefully distinguish "AI safety and security" from "protecting incumbent interests threatened by AI, laundered through the language of safety and security."
These are two very different things, if not outright orthogonal to each other. In fact, the more progress that gets made on the safety and security of powerful AI systems, the faster the incumbents will die out. And that's not a bad thing.
@UnderSecretaryF@StephenLCasper Seriously, bro, why the fck are you involved in this in your official capacity? Are these equities of the department of state?
@mkoeris The problem is that it would require trusting that the DoD would follow the law, under an administration that demonstrates lawlessness on a daily basis.
