The business volumes of OTAs have now reached such a massive scale that managing everything purely through humans is no longer practical for them. That is why they are heavily dependent on bots, AI systems, automated workflows, and layered customer support structures.

From an investor’s perspective, these companies can look attractive because a significant amount of revenue and margin expansion also comes from cancellations, convenience fees, change penalties, backend commissions, float money, and operational automation not just from selling tickets.

But if you are personally traveling and completely relying on OTA customer care during disruptions, then you should think carefully.

During cancellations, missed connections, visa issues, schedule changes, or irregular operations, travel becomes a real-time problem-solving industry and that is where human experience still matters. Even companies building AI support systems themselves acknowledge that travelers still expect fast human escalation during complex situations.

So take the wise decision:

If you are investing - invest in these companies.

If you are traveling - don’t depend only on automated customer support. Book through an experienced offline travel company when the journey is important.

The most critical and basic aspect of any airlines is customer support.

In my experience, only Emirates consistently delivers. Its support team is experienced, well-versed with rules, and available 24/7.

In contrast, many other airlines operate limited 9-5 support with weekends off, often leading to poor response or unavailability.

Additionally, several airlines, including #AirIndia rely on relatively inexperienced staff who may not have complete clarity on complex travel rules

#AirIndia, #IndiGo, and #SpiceJet which together handle about 95% of India’s domestic flights have asked the government for help.

On April 26, they wrote to the Civil Aviation Ministry saying their costs have gone up a lot.

Jet fuel now makes up 55-60% of their expenses because crude oil prices have increased from $72 to $118 per barrel due to conflicts in West Asia, and refining costs have also risen.

The airlines are asking for stable fuel pricing, lower taxes (excise duty and state VAT), and financial support to avoid flight cancellations. A weaker rupee is making things even more expensive.

So far, the government has not responded. Experts say ticket prices may increase if nothing changes before May.
