[MIT Media Lab @medialab]

Last month, the IM-2 lunar mission landed on the surface of the moon, carrying three payloads developed by Media Lab researchers and collaborators—a cross-MIT collaboration led by @explorespace_ml (SEI) and developed with @MITAeroAstro and @MIT_nano. The MIT mission was based out of Luna, a mission control space designed by @MITarchitecture students and faculty in collaboration with SEI, @inploration, and @SGH_Engineering. Additional support was provided by Media Lab member companies @comcast, @DellTech, and @Steelcase; @MITDesignAcad; @OwensCorning; and @Bose.

Luna is installed in the ground-floor gallery of the Media Lab and is open to the public as part of Artfinity, MIT’s Festival for the Arts.

[The SETI Institute @SETIInstitute]

The SETI Artist in Residency (AIR) program announced Planetary Futures. This new public art research-creation residency explores planetary science, with a focus on climate research. Through this interdisciplinary approach, the residency aims to foster dialogue, raise awareness, and inspire collective action, emphasizing how the study of other planets can provide valuable perspectives to better understand and address climate-related issues on our planet.

Topics of interest include environmental sustainability, planetary habitability, community engagement, long futures, and the Anthropocene. This two-year residency includes a $30,000 stipend.

The residency’s team of advisors selected six outstanding artists and invited them to submit a project proposal for the SETI AIR Planetary Futures residency.

The SETI Institute will announce the recipient of this residency on September 4, 2025.
