I remember the dotcom era clearly.
The key difference then was that social media didn't exist, so ordinary people had no effective way to communicate their optimism or pessimism directly to each other.
We had to rely on narratives & talking points promoted by centralized media -- TV, radio, magazines, newspapers.
And they were all hyping the Internet. Until they weren't.
@SydSteyerhart I coded a Chrome extension called DeadDash for this. It only hides word-bound em dashes (word—word). Works on both X and Reddit.

Interesting, I'll try this. When using it from the app, it hallucinates like crazy. For example, I asked it to rank the various language models and their strengths and weaknesses, and it listed "Claude o4" in its response. Maybe it's a system prompt thing, but I just can't trust it.
@chicfryrice This is rage bate. This psychopath is intentionally provoking you. I highly recommend blocking him and deleting this post. He wants attention and you gave him exactly that.
I am so sorry to hear about what happened to your husband and I’m sending all my positivity your way. ❤️
