For my #BigDataBowl submission, I looked at punt returns and quantified expected field position in order to better isolate the decision-making and contributions of a returner.

@foosball789 Arguably their best player JSN was taken 10 spots worse than his consensus big board ranking (#10) at #20 ovr (the public liked him better than the NFL and were proven correct in this case)
Five year NFL Consensus Draft grades by team. It's really no surprise the Ravens and Eagles are at the top.
And the 49ers and Jaguars once again rounding out the rear...
@HashTaguars The Ravens '22 class has the most accumulated DCOE of any class in the last five years. This is not who the best drafting teams are, it's who deviates from media consensus opinions. Personally, I'd much rather my team be near the top of this than the bottom though!
35/36 draft "reaches" since '16 were R1 or R2 picks and the last one was a R3 pick.
Steals similar to Jermod McCoy this year who drop 80+ slots to day 3 are disproportionately likely to have medical issues that the public does not have access to, so I limited this chart to R1/2
@foot_ball__guy@Chp_Spinna There is one player on this list drafted outside the top 60 players in the class, and 26 of them are R1 picks. There should be many many good NFL players on this list
Like very possible old takes exposed but 1) Jeremiah Smith 2) Colin Simmons and Dylan Stewart >>> Arvell Reese (not even close imo) 3) David mโfin Stone 4) Leonard Moore & Ellis Robinson my GOD crazy potential
@HashTaguars Yes the public is wrong all the time! (but so is the NFL). For a bunch of day 1 & 2 picks on here it's not a great haul imo. But you're free to think otherwise, I just like visualizing the data ๐
@HashTaguars It's absolutely the argument. "Consensus" is just aggregated big boards across public draftniks. The public did not think these players were worthy of their draft capital and would have rather selected other available players at the time. I just gave a few examples
@tezah__ There's two of them? And they play non-premium positions. Solid picks/players though. Point is the overall trend, most of these guys were significantly worse than alternatives
