1/ I left OpenAI 3 years ago to pursue a challenge equally as important as AGI: climate change. While we’re still short of ChatGPTree, @living_carbon has developed climate-smart trees, planted 200K+ trees & is creating a playbook for frontier tech in new markets:🧵👇
MCJers, we need your help!
We’re hosting June community events in Boston, NYC & Houston (and more cities to come!).
RSVPs so far (a few days in):
Boston: 132 🔥
NYC: 266 🔥 🔥
Houston: 9 😳😳😳
Please help us spread the word in Houston climate tech! 🙏

We shipped 100 climate-smart trees to a high school project called Plant It Forward. Today in celebration of #ArborDay2023, the students planted 100 trees in partnership with their local township in Michigan (right outside of Detroit).
We love their sign almost as much as we love partnering with local communities for urban forestry projects.
Today our peer reviewed white paper on our experimental photosynthesis-enhanced trees is available as part of an #mdpiforests special issue via @MDPIOpenAccess

For our 50th year, we’re looking forward, not back, to life on Earth.
Together, we can prioritize purpose over profit, collaboration over competition and protect this wondrous planet, our only home. What’s next is unstoppable.

Next is saving our home planet.
Let’s find joy in protecting the land and waters that have always nurtured us. And revel in their beauty, open spaces, magic. What’s next is unstoppable.

It’s planting season! We’ve officially started commercial deployment of our trees (engineered to be more efficient at photosynthesis) into US-based carbon projects. Much more work to do, but this is a first and a big milestone!
“We’ve had people tell us it’s impossible,” Maddie Hall said of Living Carbon’s dream to deploy genetic engineering on behalf of the climate. But she and her colleagues have also found believers — enough to invest $36 million in the four-year-old company. https://t.co/Yv2myhEJdR
Building anything is hard.
Building a startup is very hard.
Building a startup to help solve a big global challenge is very very hard.
Building a startup to help solve a big global challenge, bridging legacy systems to new ones is very very very hard.
But, we gotta do it.

We're expanding our commercial team's capacity to develop enough carbon projects to remove 1.66% of global emissions.

“For big corporations, the IRA ‘definitively changes the narrative from risk mitigation to opportunity capture.’ In other words, companies… should be scared of missing out on the economic growth that the energy transition (and the IRA) will bring about.” https://t.co/K3YHH6XrqD
