Ireland is a few years behind the UK in the introduction of the Physician Associate role, and we should use that as an opportunity to learn from the many mistakes that health institutions in the UK have made in that time.

I’m delighted to publish an interesting case in @NEJM this week: Thrombus in Transit across a Patent Foramen Ovale | NEJM https://t.co/Yl1JDb5hPU @CroiHeartStroke@BIASPstroke

Medical Council on medical workforce : We produce more med graduates than others in the OECD. We rely on international doctors for our hospitals. Fewer specialists than most countries. Can’t go on. @DonnellyStephen @SimonHarrisTD@LeoVaradkar

Over 1.3 million patients on waiting lists, GP surgeries unable to cope with demand, all staff under intolerable pressure. Government must face up to solutions - we need more doctors, more healthcare staff, more beds and funding that matches demand.
@amateuradam Between this and many anti-GP stories in recent months, the Daily Mail really do lead the way when it comes to damaging public health at scale, with just a headline!
On call at #CUMH today. This is the worse wave of COVID19 so far for maternity services. If you are pregnant, please get vaccinated - it could be lifesaving for you and your baby. Great resources @RCPI_ObsGyn @drjendonnelly@climurphy
@GColleranMD@IHCA_IE Absolutely Gabrielle - accommodations for life outside of work are key to maintain recruitment for clinical roles - competitive employment environment with non-clinical + corporate roles highly attractive- such orgs recognise longterm benefits of looking after employees
@drbosheaGP Also case to be made for converting select smaller EDs to medical assessment unit ± injury unit
Well-run MAU = invaluable resource for patients, GP, and ED/gen med + preserves ED capacity for cases which can only be dealt with in that setting. Likewise with minor injury units.
@SukhSDubb @DrNeenaJha@fhussain73@DoctorMayJay @MarkRileyGP @DrRachelWardGP@GenMedX@rcgp 'Every minute is taken, patient calls, prescriptions in breaks, emergencies' - this is so often all too true, but should not be! Failing to build in system for small breaks → inevitable burnout → poorer quality patient care. Not sure how feasible this is in UK system
@ailsybird Agreed. Further reducing capacity in every discipline of primary and secondary care, as a result of a crisis which has laid bare the extent of the strain on our healthcare system, is counterintuitive to say the least
PRESS RELEASE : ICGP calls for a Working Group on Future General Practice to plan for serious GP workforce pressures, in pre-Budget submission. https://t.co/mCMALw9Eu2
