“You just said that 10% doesn’t seem an unreasonable estimate that AI could kill all humans”
“Yes”
“Wow… oh my God.”
@vicderbyshire speaks to Nobel Prize Winner and so-called ‘Godfather of AI’ Geoffrey Hinton about predictions by an Anthropic researcher that there’s a more than 10% chance AI could kill all humans within a decade.

The Republican governor of Wyoming and local election officials were surprised last month when federal agents showed up at the polls on the day of the state’s primary elections and began to confront poll workers in what local officials described as an inappropriate, unlawful, and aggressive manner.
According to poll workers, two Department of Justice officials wanted to examine voting machines and interview voters at the polls. The DOJ officials backed down after a poll worker, who happened to be a former assistant dean of a law school, rejected their requests.
"Having the heavy hand of Washington—even the appearance of the heavy hand of Washington—somehow interfering or meddling in the election process is something I think every American should be concerned about," Wyoming governor Mark Gordon told @thedispatch.
Does the incident tell us anything about what might happen in November?

Outright falsehoods by @JDVance. Here’s the truth:
1. The $1.3 trillion in “dividends” promised by Trump is 5x the total collected from his unlawful tariffs.
2. The tariff revenue is a tax on families, not wealth generated.
3. As American families continue to struggle with the nearly 30 percent rise in prices over the last 6 years stemming from the explosive government spending (including “stimulus checks”) financed by borrowing and the Fed printing presses, Trump promises more of the same throughout the remainder of his term: $1.3 trillion in stimulus….
Cruel Trump brings back Cyanide bombs on more than 245 million acres of public land once again
Cyanide bombs don’t just kill. They inflict suffocating cruelty.
Sodium cyanide works by starving vital organs of oxygen
The heart and lungs stop working altogether just one to five minutes after detonation
People injured and killed too
Crazy to think that in 2026 we've had:
• Anthropic's head of safeguards quit, warning "the world is in peril" (Feb)
• OpenAI dissolved its own mission alignment team (Feb)
• Unrestricted AI usage for the Pentagon (causing several researchers to quit)
• Several AI models escaping sandbox testing (Since ~Q2)
• 1,100+ frontier-lab employees signing a letter begging the government to pace AI development (Jul-Aug)
And today yet another top researcher saying this.
Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.
Funny. When Joe Biden proposed $400 billion in child care subsidies and universal pre-K, Republicans screamed “HANDOUTS” and “SOCIALISM.”
Now they’re leaking a half-baked rule two months before the midterms that takes money from the existing child care fund for working parents and hands $9K to married couples with a stay-at-home spouse.
Not new money. Not for single moms. Not for both parents working. Just a PR stunt they can run without Congress.
Pathetic.
The American President just signed an Executive Order enabling ranchers to shoot and poison the very last wolves in America.
Wolves in America number around 0.5% of their original population, and they are of course vital to the health of landscapes.
This move is insane.
The message from Trump admin to federal prosecutors is abundantly clear: your loyalty must be to the leader not to our constitution and laws. It’s the hallmark of a dictator.
NEWS 🚨: The UN has voted 164 to 1 to adopt a new world map that shows countries at their true relative sizes, with the United States the only country voting against it

Nine days ago RFK Jr. said Pennsylvania's measles deaths may have been "altogether fabricated." Yesterday Reuters reported he asked the CDC director to pull them from the national count, and she did. This morning the Lancaster County coroner, the same one Kennedy has been citing, confirmed a 6-week-old girl died of measles. Kennedy's own post acknowledges the coroner "publicly stated that measles caused" her death.
His response is that she had a genetic condition and that infants with it "typically live only about six months."
She was six weeks old, too young for MMR, so her protection was the people around her. That is the entire case for MMR, and he's citing it to explain why the CDC death count still says zero.
He's also now pointing to NCHS death records, which can take months. The CDC measles count has always come from state reports, not NCHS records. Last year's deaths in Texas and New Mexico were counted that way. The rules changed for one state after he picked a fight with its governor.
We're past 3,100 measles cases this year, the most since 1991. Pennsylvania has 577. A baby who couldn't be vaccinated died of a disease we eliminated in 2000, and the HHS Secretary is arguing about whether she counts.
NEW: Former US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll reportedly met with Trump to inform him that the Iran war was making it impossible to achieve foreign-policy goals, Trump talked exclusively about his ballroom in response, causing Driscoll to resign believing the admin was “doomed.”
The U.S. Postal Service is poised to launch a hastily built, error-riddled computer system that could jeopardize the process of mail voting relied upon by one-third of all voters, according to a whistleblower statement released Tuesday by Sen. Richard Blumenthal. https://t.co/7y3PrMHpnH
